A fairly big wine was in order so pulled this out and gave it a short decant and as expected another excellent bottle. Surprisingly complex and layered in spite of the warm year. Dark blueberry fruit, coco, tobacco leaf and spice, lingering flavors, no heat in spite of 15.5 ABV not for those seeking elegance and finesse but a great crowd pleasing wine when a little power is welcomed.

I should have headed my own advice and decanted this longer but it was a situation of too much wine at a dinner party and which bottles should be opened. Typically this was dark closed up and rather monolithic upon opening and into a large decanter it went. Started to strut it's stuff at about 3 hrs mark and some 5 hrs later when paired with blue cheese was finally humming. My score was stingy due to several bottles being …

Last note on this 7 years ago. Needed a bigger wine to pair with some jambalaya. PnP, drank with charlotte over an hour. Dark garnet color, some thinning at the rim. I've become a big fan of Clio, so I searched the auction sites and snatched up a number of vintages for my collection. But I'm mostly a fan for Clio's over the top, jammy dense savory/sweet intensity. I haven't had one aged until now. WOW! Drinking surprisingly well - but also needs some time to open up. First taste is thin and astringent - after an hour fruit reappears, next day was at its best, the richness returned, the port like character toned down and the wine came back into balance. Wonderful dark fruit, a hint of smokiness on the end palate, still with solid structure. Give it time in the decanter and you’ll be rewarded.

Wow, second nite drinking beautifully. Powerful medium finish on the heels of blueberry and coffee spice on an agitated mid palate. Drink now but plenty of life left.

t's been a while so out it came, short decant and it seemed rather monolithic and fruit forward, almost young. Good but not great. About a third of a bottle the next day and what a great surprise, structure, mineral on finish and a much better overall experience. lesson learned -give this a solid decant 4-5 hrs and watch it explode.

Wine was properly cellared, and was pushed about as far as I'd want to age-wise. Decanted for about an hour after an initial tasting. Bricking present, some leather, tobacco, and earth notes...as well as some sherry. Medium body, no tannins to speak of, medium length finish. Glad I drank it today and not tomorrow!

93 is pushing it but I love Clio. The is the first aged Clio (14yrs) Ive tried. I first tried the 2011 at a Michekin starred restsurant in Majorca and it was one of those 'wine wow' moment. And Ive loved evry vintage since. When it's young, it's a brash show off - and I love it. Over the top in some ways, but unapologetically so. Now Im trying an older one. Wonderful showing! Luscious nose of blueberry cream, white pepper, and menthol/cough drop. Thick and chewy in the mouth with deep currant, stewed cherry, smoke, and even some basil. Plenty of acidity for balance. Bright, deep and yummy. Went very well with chili-rubbed sirloin and tomato-basil rice.

Deep and rich, with blackberry, blackcurrant, and a hint of tinderbox. The fruit remains very primary however. The wine remains very fresh and forward, with bright acidity. The tannins are silky.

w/ Morroccan chicken tagine: classic Clio nose of raisiny dark fruit and cherry cola. Palate had huge flavors of cooked berries (boysenberry, blueberry) pie-like, almost sweet. Not much tannin left so very soft and fruity but still big bodied and delicious. Just about over the hill at 12 years old so keep an eye on other vintages.

Still have a couple of these left and knowing what Clio is all about, I figured I had better drink these. Well, no issues here. This wine is as powerful as ever with no loss of fruit or structure. Still an in your face fruit bomb but balanced! How can anyone not love this stuff?

Ruby with some browning. Big toasty nose with black fruit, smoke and mocha. Richly fruited and polished palate brings more mocha and raspberry. A delicious cocktail wine. Don't enjoy these as much as I used to, but you can't argue with the delicious factor.

Chicago Wine Flock..."Dennis Shares Spain" (Casa de la Mata - Chicago IL) : Served double blind in a flight of high scoring modern Spanish wines. Huge fruit bomb with fruitcake character, just very one dimensional behind the facade.
