Solid full body Washington Merlot base blend very enjoyable well integrated tannins

2016 vintage

More contemplative—dense Merlot notes of plum skin and cocoa dominate, supported by savory spice and graphite from the Cabernet and Franc. This one benefits from a decant and slow sipping, especially with food. A “cellar conversation” wine that invites quieter reflection as the tasting unfolds. Definitely recommend waiting a few years. This is a great wine today, but it has legendary potential if you can wait until 2030.

Mark Ryan Tasting (Woodinville Tasting Room) : 70% Merlot, 21% Cabernet, 8% Cabernet Franc & 1% Petit Verdot. Excellent showing with cherry, smoke, dark chocolate, minerals, dried rose petals, dust and plum. Flavorful and drinking well now but easily decade.

Nice red merlot fruits. Medium concentration. The earthy mineral bitterness on the finish is not something I like. Wife: 91.

Tannin forward with moderate sediment already. Cigars and soil at first then transforms into cassis and dark cherry. A bolder merlot

2017 vintage

Uncorked and sampled over 5 hours - bold, fleshy style fitting of Red Mtn fruit. Significant oak, medium + acid. Red fruits, rich and ripe. About 1/3 bottle left on day two, no evolution of note other than notably faded - a bit surprising given the initial robustness...somewhat disappointing. Drink within 2-3 years.

Drinking really well now but think it could hold for another 3-5 years. very merlot dominant but very smooth. dark berries, plum and some earth to it. not heavy at all throughout the sip. has structure / balance and full mouth feel. would buy another bottle and curious about other vintages, if any. Good buy at around $50

2017 vintage

January 19, 2022. Drank from Bin North 18. 84% merlot, 9% CS, 6% Cabernet franc, 1% petit Verdot. In cellar since July 2020. $35. Dinner with Aline, Emma and Cory. Nose of oak spice and blackberry. Dark purple. Soft even presentation chalk oak touch of acid plum and currant. Delightful 4 year old wine. 8.5/10.

Nose of leather, anise, dark cured cherries. Taste introduces gentle vegetal elements - hello and than you CF. Rich, full, interesting. PV at 1% brings the hallelujah to a perfect package.

Big firm tannins, oak still evident over cherries and almonds. Still very young

2017 vintage

This had a long decant. Four hours and it was bright cherries. Six hours it finally became the plummy merlot I was anticipating. Sorry not much of a formal note (there were two other bottles for the two of us). I was expecting something more, but it was really nice after the six hour point.

Very nice stuff, feels pretty serious and showed nice balance. It's actually a bit too young in my opinion; has plenty of acidity and tannin to go the distance, and a little shy right now. Good fruit too, although also some green tones I didn't love as much. Needs a short-term nap. Nose started with lots of green (bitter coffee grounds, bell pepper etc), which worried me, but (mostly) blew off quickly to reveal a pretty combination of ripe red …

We consumed this bottle as an after-dinner treat. I wasn't paying close attention to notes, but recall this was well structured and enjoyable. Nose and palette were a combination of graphite, dark chocolate, espresso, dark cherry + blue fruits. This did not need a decant and drank well out of the bottle with some opening in the glass.

2012 vintage

At a very nice place right now this blend of 49% Merlot, 46% CF, 6% CS and 1% PV shows a lot of depth and interest in a very integrated, balanced package. Blackberry, cherry, cigar box and campfire all intertwined. Nice acids up front and smooth integrated tannins on the finish mean nothing is harsh or out of place. Drink over the next 3 years.

Wonnaful a wonnaful. Drink now without hesitation or hold for a couple of years. (But I say drink now and enjoy). Great fruit, sweet tannin, all in balance.

2008 vintage

A solid Merlot blend and another enjoyable wine by Mark Ryan. The nose had an initial whiff of dusty earth but that blew off and reveled black berry, cranberry and oak. The palate was fairly balanced with a slight edge towards the alcohol that may have added a touch of heat. The finish had a beautiful combination of vanilla and chocolate.

Should have waited another 5 years. Still pretty tight. Very nice fruit. Good structure and tannins.

2008 vintage

This wine is still enjoyable, but I wouldn’t wait to open it. There is blackberry on both the nose and tongue. The spiciness of the Cabernet Franc is showcased after it breathes a bit in the glass: a little cinnamon, and subtle cardamom. The ending has some dried black current.

Lots of a plush dark fruit nicely layered with spice and tannins. Then you get to the long spicy finish. There is a lot of powerful flavors going on with this bottle along with a great mouth feel. We are really sorry that we only bought this one bottle.

2016 vintage

Revisiting Washington (Woodinville) : 80% Merlot and then some other Bordeaux varietals. This is very much what you think when you think of merlot - all plushy and velvet in nature. Darker red fruits. I'd like a hint of acid to create a bit more balance. It's much more mouth coating. There's something just a touch odd at the end which I couldn't quite figure out at first, but I think it's just a tail end of heat. Wonder if …

Very enjoyable for a Merlot- dominated blend, reat nose, dark hues, deep flavor, a bit tannic.

Superbly balanced with full body. The Cab Franc is really noticeable.

2008 vintage

Took a while to open up but when it did it was full of pencil lead dark berry tannins and a tight grip. This truly is a wine to lay down for the long haul

2012 vintage

Gritty, gripping, and structured...strikingly so...for Washington in general, and for the vintage in particular. Showing very young; it has the structure and density to age for seven or more years.

2011 vintage

Bright red fruit (mostly cherry), nice acidity, firm tannins, and typical Red Mountain earthiness. Served with pork tenderloin, mushrooms, and spätzle.

2012 vintage

Nice Bordeaux blend with a balance of bright red fruit and dusty earth typical of Red Mountain. Paired the wine with a strong blue cheese which really did not pair well at all. Overall, this may have influenced my opinion of the wine.

It has everything to be exceptional except now it has a bitter aftertaste. Bad bottle ? Too young ? I'm not sure.

2012 vintage

At 10 years, it's giving some new flavors of sandalwood and forest floor while still retaining blackberry undertones. The cab franc makes it meaty and garrigue. Complex in what is now older age - aren't we all? Enjoy.
