Waited too long. Too sweet and jammy as are most '05s out this far, so added 3 tablespoons of water (one at a time, tasting after each addition) to freshen it up. Decanting/filtering off the chunky sediment was required as well. The result made an otherwise undrinkable wine drinkable, but with time in the glass necrotic soy sauce flavors showed up amid the stewed blackberry fruit. Drink up.

Reduced nose of overt ripeness with smothering big-bosomed fruit on the palate and a cloying finish. Can't remember being disappointed by a WC OV ever before, but this sure didn't work for me.

Similar experience to the last. Very syrupy with not much tannin, acid or structure remaining. Stewed extracted black fruit, anise, cassis, spearmint, leather, and prunes. More liqueur than wine. Tasty but flat with a few years to go before really kicking up secondary notes. Still impressed with how it's holding up

MUST must like big wine to really enjoy this one. A 100% Cabernet from Champoux vineyard aged 20 months in 100% new French oak. The vines were planted in the 70's. Texturally syrupy with massively concentrated blackberry, anise, vanilla, and cassis. Also starting to develop some secondary notes of mature stewed fruit, prunes, leather, eucalyptus, and damp cedar. (from magnum) Inky black color, with dark aromas of spice-tinged black cherry and blackberry. Deep and dense with a kick of tannin still there, this should've been decanted. Huge on the palate with a very long finish. Continue to hold.

Had this at Ringside in Portland, Oregon last week. Honestly again a horrible markup here. Lacking depth. It was decanted and started to fall apart rather quickly. Tannins were still there but just hanging on. The fruit was starting to fade but instead of picking up other interesting components it just fell short and apart.

This wine is monster-sized, and even on day two, it still felt that way. It is so big that I wonder if it will ever develop any nuances. Still dark as night, with a nose of deep dark fruits and cassis. On the palate its a very full-bodied wine with with penetrating deep dark fruits, but it is so big that I find it somewhat off-putting, despite it's obvious quality.

I have fair bit of Woodward Canyon in the cellar and know that they are all solid wines. This one, however, showed particularly well with prominent, yet tasteful wood nose, dark fruit on the palate and a balanced finish. Still will age for 5-10 more years. Excellent wine.

Found this in my cellar, thought I had the Ruah, but it is a cab. Pop and pour, comes across nicely on the nose with dark currants, cherry and blueberry leads to a medium body with similar flavors, good acidity and mild tannins, no underlying earthiness or minerality, quite fresh and young tasting, no heat, which is nice, some spice at medium smooth finish. I must up the rating due to the persistence on the finish. Lovely.

What a pleasant surprise! I was thinking Colorado Cab...yeah...right. There is no way this would ever stand up to a CA Cab, but for an every day pop and pour drinker a great wine! Nice clarity and a deep red color. Nose of cherry, raspberry, and oak. Very delicate cherry and cassis palate with huge oak. An interesting spicy/pepper finish. Nothing fancy here. Tannins a touch flat, but good acidity.

Really interesting, and keeps delivering days after opening. The slightly bitter cherry flavors evolved and softened over two days, leaving a soft cherry vanilla soda nose and wild black licorice flavors.

Very dark in color and very tight and firm at opening. Decanted for 2+ hours and while it was still quite tight and firm, its underlying potential was starting to show. Deep dark fruits, chewy tannins, firm but in a good way (great aging potential). This one's a real keeper. I have a few more bottles, and I'll wait at least a year or more before I open up the next bottle. Great stuff, just a bit young at this …

Very, very closed. Decanted 1/2 for 5 hours prior to dinner and it sill took ages to open up. Lots of dark fruit, great balance, paired phenomenally well with food. Impressive wine that will only get better with age. Easy 15+ years, possibly much longer with care.

Holy huge!! This is a monster. Both nose and palate. The nose is explosive with rich black fruits, toasty oak, vanilla, cedar, pencil lead, and smoke. The oak is a bit much up front, particularly on nose. Rich and opulent palate with huge tannins throughout. Nice acidity makes this balanced and believed to be ageworthy, needing 5+ years to evolve into approachable and will last at least 20 years.

Secret Crush (Gerding Theater, Portland) : I like this better than the Ruah. Plenty of tannins but not overdrying. A hint of spiciness, with black currant fruit on the palate. Finish is nice, but not very long.
