Morbido e sensuale nei suoi profumi floreali, di bella piacevolezza

Ruby. Serious licorice and black fruit aromas. Medium weight but atypically powerful for this grape with excellent penetration and mouth coverage. Juicy blackberry fruit with herbs and lively acidity, even some tannins to resolve. If you drink about one bottle of Dolcetto annually as I do, well, it might as well be this one. Absolutely excellent and I look forward to trying the remainder of the bottle tomorrow.

Nice cherry fruit on the nose, the palate is disjointed right now though - too much acid and tannin fighting each other. Needs more time I think.

No detailed notes. Simply lovely to drink. Increases in complexity with air. A glass saved in the bottle for the next day. Still great after 24 hours. Quite some ageing potential. Certainly better than some langhe nebbiolo or even Barolo.

This is a fun one- an everyday wine from a real top shelf producer. Vibrant young purple in the glass. Juicy red and black fruits, concentrated cherry juice, a bit of licorice, and dried violets on the nose. Light to medium in body, medium in acidity with a surprising amount of tannins that are fairly aggressive. The flavors are mostly juicy red fruits, for lack of a better word- this is just tasty. There are some flavors of licorice in …

Lovely deep purple color. Medium weight - dark cherry, citrus rind, forest floor. Noticeable tannins on the finish that are approachable but not quite silky either.

Smells of bright fruit: cherry, red plum, red apple, red currant. Seems even carbonic with banana or something… there are violets and lavender, gentian. On the palate it’s juicy. Medium body and medium acidity. There are red currants and crisp red apple flesh. Noticeable tannin and black tea with honey and chocolate. 8/18

Delicious wine. Full bodied with a creamy texture. Red strawberries and cream with a nice dose of acidity and freshness. A nice long finish with some licorice and brambly notes and silky tannins.

The '21 Dolcetto is a great example of this grape. It actually seems to me like this could use a few years of time to open up on the palate. I liked the aromatics, but it came across as a bit tight on the palate, while seemingly having good density to benefit from a few years of age. I found juicy, dark red to black berry fruits, dark floral tones, and licorice on the nose, which was nicely aromatic. On …

Very good; HOLD. My second time with this in the past six months, and this time I managed to stretch the bottle out to day three, when the wine really came to life. Lovely. ripe red/black tinged fruit with lots of vibrancy, as it should be with Dolcetto; quite elegant on day 3. I prefer this to the '20 in the same moment of its progression. highly recommended https://www.ItalianWine.blog

Juicy with dark cherry and wild florals. Bright acidity. Good stuff and will last longer than your typical Dolcetto. Odd amount of sediment, though.

Knights of Alba (KOA) NY Intronization - May 2023 (NY Private Club) : A much more vinous style of dolcetto which you don’t always see. Darker fruits again (versus some of the more red fruit style). A bit more interesting and multidimensional than I expect for a Dolcetto. This is a wine you could sit and contemplate on its own whereas for me this is a grape that most often is happiest when paired with food. Very bright. Drinks nicely …

The grapes are sourced from two vineyards: Monrobiolo and Ruè (which is why the wine was formerly known as "Dolcetto Monrobiolo-Ruè"). Normally fermented spontaneously in concrete with approximately 1-2 weeks of maceration. Aged for 6-9 months in old botti casks. 13,5% alcohol. Deep and very slightly hazy ruby red color with faint purplish highlights. The nose feels fine-tuned and somewhat restrained with layered, sweetly-fruited aromas of blackberries and ripe black cherries, some blueberry tones, a little bit of perfumed floral …

Simple and approachable. Better than most Dolcettos out there with its purity and elegance balanced with mild rustic edges. Quite yummy! Dark and fresh on the bouquet with notes of blackberry, blueberry compote, creme de cassis, Bassett’s blackcurrant wine gums, plum jam, violets and rose petals, some cooling mint and dried herbs. On the palate it’s medium-bodied with medium- tannins and medium acidity offering blackberry, creme de cassis, elderberry juice, black pepper and sweet black licorice in the finish. If …

Opened 30mins before first glass. Took some coaxing to reveal a iniviting nose of cherry, floral notes, and a hint of bbq meat. Dry, crunchy red fruit on the palate. It has a wispy and silky palate that finishes dry with good energy. Pops with food and was a good match with carbonara. Still youthful. Last glass was best glass.

A savoury nose of smoked meats, earth and cherries. The palate is calm and even, with plenty of interesting nuance. There is the usual crunch of the variety and very decent complexity. Should continue to age well.

Bright crunch fruit on the nose and great structure and acidity. Second time having the '18 and while it will improve in a year or two, drinking great now. Much prefer '18 over the '17.

Cheerful, approachable, but also with nice structure. In fact, I'd guess another year or two will actually help to open this more fully. An understated, very pure, food-friendly wine with each sip worth savoring. recommended+ https://www.ItalianWine.blog

Med purple/magenta; vivid & bright. Nose > Outrageous, aromatic, fresh fruit. Masses of red cherry, red & black raspberry, touch of pomegranate. Palate > FRESH! Red cherry, choke cherry, rose petal, hint of bitter cherry. Barely Med intensity, but Med+ persistence. Again, so, so fresh. Tons of simple & complex, insanely fresh, red, wild, magenta & black fruit. Great balance & acidity; very low tannins. (92+)

Opened and enjoyed over two days. As others mentioned, this is shut down at first and needs time in the glass to show its best. Really started to open about two hours in with aromas of dark fruit and subtle spice, and sweet red cherry on the palate. I really enjoyed this style of dolcetto.

On opening, seemed very angular and dilute, quite acidic. Lean. With some air, blueberries, cherry and licorice on the nose. Medium bodied, drying chalky tannins on midpalate, sour cherry acidity perking up towards the end. That bitter almond note appears at the end too, similar with the Vajra Bricco delle Viole 2013, albeit less intense. Continues to shift around in the glass, sometimes tannic, sometimes silky. Give this wine some time after opening. 12.5% ABV.

Not as impressed as last time in 2015 but a really nice and easy to match pasta/antipasti wine. A wine that shows both the difficulty of the vintage and the importance of a good winemaker - if that makes sense. Gains with air, don't judge on first sips.

Beautiful entry level introduction to the Mascarello house style. This is classic Dolcetto with fresh and expansive sappy cherries and blueberries. The nose and palate sing after an hour of air.

Just a beautiful example of a traditional dolcetto. This is young, and will open up in the class to reveal fruit, structure, acidity, and soil notes. This is an elegant dolcetto. I love this dolcetto in every vintage.
