The last bottle. Cork showing signs of past seepage. Single piece cork. Popped and poured. Has a dense, almost milky appearance. Deep red with purple hue. Slight bricking at rim. Not a great showing. Clearly affected by seepage, the cork was very loose when pulled out. This wine always has a milky appearance, no matter the state of the wine. Passable, but not up to the usual standard.

No formal notes; best after 24h of air, kept in fridge. Rich and savoury flavours. Still in secondary phase. Drinking well; drink or hold another 10. 13% abv

Dense and very primary at almost 18 years. Drink or hold to 2022 13% abv

Blackberry, truffle, xylene and eucalyptus nose. P: silky smooth with some grip. Still lots of fruit and some licorice and blueberry notes. Good length; excellent (and I thought I disliked merlot). 95% merlot, cabernet. Drink or hold until 2022. 13% abv

I'm very fond of Friuli reds. Yes, this region is best know for tremendous white wines. With that said, Friuli might be my favorite merlot-dominated red wine region in the world, Bordeaux included. The damp-earth rustic yet refined style really suits me. Yes, I know that sound contradictory - how can a wine be 'rustic' and 'refined'?
