Holiday Great Wine Lunch (RL - Chicago IL) : Perfumed aromatics with bright red cherry and berry throughout, but already on the mature side, and it was even noticeably less excited when finished (30 minutes in glass) than when poured. This wine represents why I both love and hate Bizot wines.

I was pretty excited to try this given there are only 286 bottles and six magnums. The nose was fresh and pure with wild red fruit and crazy spice. Palate was exciting on the attack, with more dark fruit and spice, but a big letdown on the finish. Reminded me a lot of Prieur Roch with the tart pickle juice note. I expect this is largely due to the vintage.

Opened to a subdued but characteristic bizot nose. Wine was initially tart opening at 10am but quite soft so I decided to Cork it. Reopened again at 3pm for dinner drinking. Unfortunately tannins are still present and wine was quite light. This barely moved over the whole dinner showing that perhaps this was a bottle to cellar further.

During a Paulee dinner so only brief impressions. Viticulture and wine making approach of Bizot is very much in the Leroy technique. It shows in the wines but also the prices of this mini estate. Also here, aromas jump from the glass here, energetic, lively, complex, blue fruit, sweet spices.

Had about 45 minutes of nice VR spice and life, but an overall murkiness of color and texture took over and this was ultimately disappointing.
