This is a special wine. Full on the nose, rich in the mouth. Savoury and clean with crisp apple and lemon. Plenty of cream and nuts but not up itself. This is not a pompous wine but joyous company. Did I mention the balance? Or the way it made the Comte sing? No? Ah well. You get the picture. Going large on this score because I LOVE IT!

Yet another very good KR Chardonnay - and my first Coddington. Reminds of of the Estate, but with more volume and oomph. Rich and playful but with a real core of impressive mineral backbone.

Good, not great. A little rounder and the fruit a little sweeter than I’d like. But this is nonetheless a very tasty wine in the “neoburgundian new world” vein. Lots of nice citrus, apple, pear fruit, tasteful and probably expensive oak, etc. More focus, acidity, minerality, and lift would make this a big winner in my book.

Apricot, ripe peach, lemon peel, cream. Complex, intense. Long finish. Could have rated higher. Waiting to see if the other bottles hold up over time. Paired with arroz con pollo, a salty, acidic dish. It held its own and paired well as long as lemon juice and capers were not added. Then it made the wine a but hot and harsh. Wine was excellent on its own and developed a bit over the two hours we drank it.

I purchased the 2015, 2019, and 2021 vintages of this wine and drank all 3 recently and definitely prefer this 2021. The others were nice but this tastes fresher and more lively. I like this wine young. I also prefer their Coddington over their other vineyard offerings. citrus, white peach, cream, minerals.

Love this wine - very Burgundy in style. Doesn't quite hold up with the same energy level day 2. But who cares as they are so delicious that they are gone by day 1.

Second bottle from a small case, 16 months after the last one and this has not moved. Chapeau if you don’t call this vintage of Coddington a Burgundy blind. A very pale yellow in the glass. Beautiful nose, seamlessly integrated citrus, white fruit, flowers and a touch of wood spices (100% old oak barrels here I understand). The palate is a bit lean, perhaps the only criticism here, could do with a bit more concentration. Chalk and limestone, long finish. …

As always, this is a wonderful wine. A beautiful compromise between old-world style and new-works fruit. Lightly creamy bright with acidity and complex with a variety of fruit flavors and aromas ranging from citrus to stone fruit to tropical. Minerals finish makes this so satisfying.

Quite restrained and taut. Slightly waxy and a little reductive on the nose - flint, smoke and wet stones but with a reasonably ripe fruit core, something a little tarte tatin esque (pastry/roasted fruit). Enough body to be considered substantial, but still fresh and lively on the palate with some chew and lots of lemony acidity. Very attractive, though I wouldn’t mind it being a touch more full throttle. I wonder if someone more experienced in top end Chard than …

(17,5/20) The Coddington is less renowned than Kumeu's flagship wine from Maté Vineyard, but for me this is hardly less. Super powerful and rich, energetic and lingering. Love this wine! Whole-bunch fermented, aged for 11 months in French oak barrels. Medium+ intense aromas of white blossom, pear, white grapefruit, lemon zest, pineapple, tangerine, tonic, biscuit, toasted bread, almond, hazelnut, wet stone. Dry wine, high acidity, medium+ body, pronounced flavour intensity, long finish. 13,5% ABV - NWBT @ Pinot

I'm a fan of their Chardonnays and this was not a let-down. It is fairly pricey at about $40 (on sale), but does hold its own against Bourgogne-level wines at far higher prices. It has good tension between the richness and acidity. Delightful if not all that complex at this stage of its development.

My fav of the 3 Kumeu River Chardonnay's I've had and the most expensive of the 3. Grapes from the northern section of the north island of New Zealand this is richer and more ripe. citrus peach butter cream tropical notes. Very enjoyable Chardonnay!

My 3rd of 4 2021 Chardonnay's I've bought and tried from this Producer. This one more expensive than their Estate and Rays Road offerings and offered an upgrade in taste as well. Ripe and unctuous fruits of citrus, peach, butter, apple, and tropical notes. This one could improve further with 3-5 more years in the bottle.

a perfectly fine chardonnay but probably not worth the price. robust nose of white flowers and stone fruit. on the palate, you get lemon, green apple, cream, and some pear. there's ample acidity here to help balance things out. i enjoyed the long finish that had a hint of almond. should be interesting to see how this ages. will give the next bottle 3 to 5 years.

Screw cap. Light lemon colour. Lemon tart, ripe apple, peaches, grapefruit, tropical fruit, hazelnut, toast, light vanilla, and mineral undertones, with fresh, medium-level acidity, and very good length. The oak is present, but well integrated. Good concentration and good balance, with a creamy texture. Harmonious despite of its youth. Some sweetness, but not off-putting. Coca Cola-like, but in a positive sense. A very good, highly drinkable Chardonnay that is enjoyable pop-and-pour. A little tired on day two. Drink young.

First bottle from a case bought a few years back. Coddington is not my favourite Kumeu River but this too is superb. So well balanced with explosive freshness and minerality, white fruit and citrus, and a touch of oak. Beautiful, like a top 1er Cru in a cooler vintage, and then Hunting Hill delivers that extra bit of delineation and precision.

Love how this style changed over the last few vintages - from being overoaked to such a Burgundian, more subtle style. Crazy good. Pours deep golden in the glass. Pronounced nose exploding with aromas of butterscotch, ripe yellow apple, apricot, papaya and pineapple. Loads of drive on the palate, just a lick of salinity on the finish. The oak is superbly integrated with the fruit and really last long into the night. Unfortunately, this bottle lasted us only half an …

after an astounding 2020 Hunting Hill, this showed more bottle age development, and a considerable amount of oak handling. It is an outstanding wine that is clearly more worked than the estate wine, but the oak presented a slightly rough, tannic edge to the wine. In a way, I liked the way the wine was framed, but in comparison to a nearly-perfect 2020 HH, this showed a lack of cohesion between fruit and oak. There is great concentration here, plenty …

13% vol More smoke. The wine feels incredibly deep in this line-up. Oily citrus, very floral and heady, superb lifted feel… classic Meursault elements abound!
