Light pomegranate-red with ruby edges, the wine’s appearance alone promises elegance and refreshment. Hugely aromatic with notes of sour cherries, raspberries candies, orange zest and dried flowers. Time and temperature reveals downplayed notes of bitter dark chocolate, camphor, medicine cabinet and pibe tobacco. Acidity is high and tannins are discrete but fine grained. Overall it has a refreshing high pitch quality that serves to complete the wine in a way that’s unusual at this price point. Easily rivals the lighter …

Even after a long decant, I couldn't touch it the first day. Day 2 opened quite nicely. Lots of deep dark fruit and long finish

Kind of alcoholic on the nose, with stewed blackberry and a little funk. It follows through on the palate with stewed plum, fig jam, strawberry jam and a touch of rhubarb. Very rustic, with gritty tannins, piercing acidity and a slightly bitter finish. Not convinced this will get better with more age.

Fun to compare with ourselves from 7-years back! This was purchased in 2012 (2nd bottle 50% off from first). Our collective sense is that it is better from the aging. Classic style, modestly tannic, excellent and long aftertaste. Almonds, forest-floor, smoke, raisins, mocha -- brings back positive associations --

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $40+ (Bin 75) : Ripe, but not dark. Round, but has some balance. Was thinking Italy, but initially not sure where. Someone said Amarone, and though color says no, taste says yes. Based on that, nailed my guess exactly. My #2 wine of the night.

Pnp. Very good out of the gate, and got better over three hours. Smooth, complex, rich. Just a beautiful wine drinking great right now. It appears to have a long life ahead.

Cherry and tobacco smell with overtones of woodlands, almodns, smoke, earth and licorice. The taste is complex and strong, with black cherries and velvet. I felt it as round with silky tannins. The 2nd night a sense of almonds became stronger. The color is very dark, but not yet opaque.

I bought this bottle today ... and then read the CT reviews. If you possess one of the other 63 bottles in stock at the time of reviewing ... fear not! This is not a typical Amarone in terms of weight, it is medium bodied for an Amarone, but it does possess some of the inherent flavours. The bouquet was almost non existent ... it smelt of ... wine! Contrary to previous reviews, this bottle improved over the evening. Originally, …

This one starts off exciting but then kinda leaves you hanging a little. The nose at first is very intriguing and complex - chalk earth, dusty cellar, raspberry, rose, light leather and crackers were all jotted down in my notes! Plus it had a nice full flavor, balanced mouthfeel and a good long fruity juicy finish. I was ready to score this baby 90 points until I left it sit in the glass for about 20 minutes or so at …

AEG We drank this after a Banfi brunello, '97 and a Pio Cesare barolo, '97 and this was the best of the three. Opened two hours before drinking and several ounces removed and the bottle recorked. The color was a bright ruby, showing no age. The bouquet was muted but seemed fresh, with noted of fruit. On tasting, the wine is still fresh, with undertones of the dried grapes as expected. However, other flavors included mango and papaya. The tannins …
