Notes of hay, mineral and light fruit accents of orange and pear. A straightforward and pleasant Viognier.

Very well integrated Viognier with beautiful peach and tangerine (?). We loved this as an appetizer accompaniment.

Bit of color on this, tons on the nose, foretelling the rich, lush palate, a voluptuous wine, but also beautifully balanced, with good acidity, nothing over ripe or syrupy, lovely depth and complexity. A perfect match to a rich thanksgiving dinner.

Followed over three days: the peach not is not as pronounced as it was with the first of my two bottles: in this second one. the flavors are extremely well integrated to produce a refreshing, kick-ass white varietal.

Beautiful floral notes, peachy, slightly tart, hardly discernible oak, a hint of spices on the nose and acidic. Excellent wine.

This is really, really good - and, as Peay says, unlike most Viognier you may have had (or at least that I have had). Medium gold but highly translucent in the glass. Aromas of peach, pear, lemongrass, a hint of tropical fruits, some crushed gravel and bread / yeast. On the palate, the first thing you notice is the very crisp acidity, which nevertheless does not unbalance the wine. Lighter-bodied, with oak providing not so much noticeable flavor as just …

Followed over a few days. Excellent each day. Fresh, lively, slightly peachy; great with salmon; equally good with mac n'cheese.

Really classy cool climate viognier. The quality of top flight Condrieu and an interesting contrast in style. This is youthful and will improve.

Had it with an onion- and parsley-heavy chicken salad. Wanted a wine that would take the back seat, and this was a good choice. The wine comes across as unassuming, even basic, but with a strong shot of acidity.

Nicely balanced (4/2/20, 90+ as aperitif). Paired with Jose Andre's smoked paprika paella with shrimp and baby squid (4/10/20, 91+)

Another leaky Peay cork. Fortunately, this time the wine did not appear to be affected.

An intense version, no doubt from the warmer vintage, at only 13.7 abv this has tremendous depth and richness, balanced by excellent acidity, and finishing with some nice steely minerality. Nothing overripe or tropical here, just pure fruit that captures every taste bud in your mouth. Bit of an outlier for this vineyard, but delicious nevertheless.

One-dimensional, light, crisp, straight-forward. Refreshing but lacking in interest and depth. Fine, if a bit over-priced, for what it is.

snappy & delightful, ginger, mandarin orange peel, some cool minty bitterness; persistent high-toned finish, super w/food. probably should finish this summer. sesame-crust triggerfish, sugar snaps w/sherry vinegar & mint; spicy smashed cukes, ponzu aioli

The previous reviewer is correct in describing a leaner profile compared to previous vintages, but it isn't a dramatic difference, and it uncoiled after being open a while which brought out both more mid-palate richness and more powdered stone grip and more aromatics. Advise holding a few months or to summer 2018 and/or serving at a slightly warmer temperature to balance the fresh acids from clipping the fruit.

Peay Release Party 2017 (Peay Vineyards, Sonoma) : Completely missing the floral, Gewurz-like terpenes that I loved in the 2014. The nose is only moderately aromatic, with a hint of ripe peach (lower-toned terpenes, more like a faded Condrieu). Prominent lees on the nose (a pleasant yeasty-bready note). On the palate, it has a lot of the same freshness as the 2014 - dry - medium bodied - medium plus alcohol (feels 13%) - medium plus (!) acid - pretty …

Took too long getting to this one. Gone is the fresh fruit, pear and tartness to be replaced by early oxidation. Should have opened this two years ago.

This continues to get delicious, and I think the tendency to try and compare it to other regional viogniers will distract from the lovely, lean and minerally style

A very modern expression of viognier with a good deal of oak and honey on the nose. I could see how many traditional viogner lovers would poo-poo this as a bastardization of the varietal, but I enjoyed its acute richness and weight. Thought it could have used a touch more acidity as it did come across, at times, a bit round.

Rare and usually excellent, perhaps it needs more time in the bottle. Steely, lean, and mineral driven. Is a bit lacking in fruit. Needs to be only a tiny bit chilled otherwise it is shut down. Value does not seem justified at this point.

Having a little trouble deciphering this wine, as it's a bit distant from my Viognier experience - either domestic or French. Unusually lean, mineral and steely for Viognier, with notes of peach pit, slight pineapple, a strong but pleasant tartness that trails into the medium long finish. Interesting and unusual, alcohol is labeled at 14.2, but that's much higher than I would have guessed for this wine. Wants food, and room temperature.

Just arrived this week and I couldn't resist. Gorgeous aromatics. Similar to the 08, if a touch more narrow down the middle. I don't remember this much minerality from past vintages -- an interesting combination with the tropical and melon sheen. Plenty of verve in this Viognier. 90-92
