LOOK: bright, transparent tawny copper. SCENT: legendary, stiff spherical blooms, dark honey, seasoned timber, earth, sharp kirsch, mint/lemon. TEXTURE: not particularly sweet tasting (see notes from Gaet and Tony Ling.) Lovingly poised and draped over rational stone breaks. Upper register, translucent, suggestions of preserved citron, schaerbeek, black pepper, marzipan, juniper, cinnamon, and coriander seed. Great acidity. Spicy cured fruitskins. SUM: gorgeous. thrilling. a long lingering emotional negotiation.

Sherry-like -- this bottle was over the hill.

Opened 1 day prior to serving into Zalto Universal glass (“Leaf” day): Medium orange to the eyes. What a nice spectrum of stone fruits of apricots, and yellow fruits. Very pure even after 1 day. Superb elegance on the palate. 93-94 points

The 1995 Foreau Clos Naudin Vouvray is fully mature and should be consumed sooner than later. Can be treated as a dessert wine with 60g/L of sugar. Resolved sugar cane, yellow plums, honied tropical fruits and airy minerals on the palate. Straightfoward but very drinkable. 60g/L sugar? Alcohol more observable in 1995 than in 1996 / 1997.

92 pts

Drinking really delicious. Color is dark golden. Nose is apricots, toasted nuts. Needs to be drunk at about 50-55 degree F. Not too cold not too hot. Sweet, but more bittersweet with clean, clear flavor that has depth and richness -- smackingly good with a good hit of underlying acidity. Good for quite a few years more, I would venture -- quite lively.

Delicious stuff; temperature makes a big difference. Out of the fridge is too cold, and the warmer it gets the sweeter it seems. Best temp was slightly below cellar temp. Clean and lingering, seamless structure. Probably good for the next ten years at least -- absolutely alive and energetic.

Loire in the afternoon with two Vouvray from 1947. (NYC) : Shows a touch of oxidation on the nose with shoe polish, honeycomb, toasted nuts, apricots and marmalade aromas. It's definitely a bit more mature than the last bottle I had a few years ago and it's shed a little sweetness and added just a hint of oxidation, but the wine retains a beautiful savory richness to it with perky acid levels. Nicely honeyed with botrytis showing clearly as well …

Medium sweet, good acids, lemon pie and honeysuckle. Nice, pleasant, but the Reserve is worth the step up. B

What happened here? Slightly oxidative, alcoholic and very disjointed with stewed apricot and heavily botrytised flavours.

Deep gold, amber. Lot's of sweet fruit in the nose. Waxy brown sugar notes even a bit of petrol. Beautiful rich flavours with a long finish. Outstanding.

Very earthy and mushrooms at first. Then lanolin, stone pit fruits, quince, loads of acidity, not very sweet, drinks well. This was pop and poured and the last of the bottle was much better. Should have given this a bit of time to air out.

Amber-colored elixir. Unctuous and thick-legged. Very fine aromas, like a great Sauternes, only more delicate and nutty. Some Sherry characteristics. Sleek and round in the mouth, lacking just a bit in intensity and presence. Still, this is very good. Drinking beautifully now with lots of life left. 5-12-13-7: 87/100

Medium gold in the glass, it was a treat to have this for the 2nd time in 4 months. A very harmonious wine that is ready to go at this point. Medium bodied and delicate with a complex mix of minerality, hay, lemon and a light sweetness that adds honey to the equation. Medium to long length to close things out. A really nice wine that seems to be peaking earlier than I would expect but this is what Phillippe …

Bought at the estate. Drunk over two days. Fabulous soft sheen of pale gold and copper tones. Limpid in the glass. Bouquet of orchards, hay with a lift of lemon zest. Although quite tight on day 1, by the second day, the palate of orchard fruit and minerals was highlighted with hints of honey, caramel and lemon curd. Had that thrilling oscillation in the mouth between acidity and minerality. Medium to long finish, leaving the mouth fresh. clean and thirsty …

Agree with previous notes. My first time having a 12 year old Vouvray. Served after dinner to a party of 5 with desert of berry trifle. Delicious for it's balance and acidity, and in no way heavy.

Wow...if you appreciate sweeter, more-complex style wines, this is one for you! A great golden color followed by just-enough-sweetness, enough complexity on the tongue to more than hold your thoughts, and a long finish. One bottle should last a few people more than one event. Enjoy!

Tasting with Phillippe Foreau At Domaine Foreau/Clos Naudin (Vouvray, France) : Tasting at Domaine Foreau/Clos Naudin with Phillippe Foreau. From a freshly opened bottle. This was a treat to try as we have some of this and the '95 Moelleux Reserve in our cellar. Medoium gold in color, this was a very delicate wine filled with sea salt, truffles and other elegant aromas and flavors. The finish is very long. Surprisingly, Phillippe feels this only has another 5-7 years at …

LILA Tasting: More nuanced than Coteaux, lighter mouth, more fresh fruity nose (even though 4 years older than Florent ’99); light peach and honey; dark notes in the mouth, though!! roasted notes, earthy-minerally, long long silky finish. Wonderful.

Lite honey, nuts, minerals & chenin character; tons of structure in finish. Very fresh! orange, honey notes, grt bal, elegance, no serious aging is evident.
