Bought for lunch in a Byron Bay pub. Deep red Clear Shiraz characters, touch of white pepper suggesting underripeness but it was a warm year and is 14 alc. Cool climate Aussie characters. A good effort for Mornington. It is only because Tom Carson made it that I tried it. Good to try but lacks real life and excitement.

{screwcap, 14%} Crimson but not too dense looking. Spicy, even peppery nose. Palate too, with mild oak, plenty of acid, light/medium weight, minimal gritty tannins, medium length dry finish. Ok wine, nothing terribly special. $90 from the list at Ecco, Drummoyne.

Grand Cru Shiraz (The four seasons hotel, the rocks, sydney) : Reductive rubberyness, black pepper, a little liquorice over muted blackberry, quite savoury, a little spice. Medium plus intensity acidity, talc textured tannins, fruit plays seconds fiddle here, slight alcohol warmth intrudes. Nah.
