Dark brick red. Good solid cork. Drank over three days via Coravin. Tobacco, cedar and herbs on the nose. Black cherry, minerals, and blackberries. Pleasing tartness, touch of oak, with nice structure and tannins that are beginning to soften. Drank well with a couple of different pastas. Glad I have some more for the future. Likely drinking well for many more years.

The first of my bottles purchased on release, and the first time I've had the wine since a visit with Elena Currado at the winery 2014. This starts out very angular, awkward, and metallic, and takes some hours in the glass/decanter to come around. Two hours in, the aromas come across more mature than I'd expect from a relatively young 15 year old Barolo in a classic year, showing an old book, prunes, and some dried herbs. There's also just …

Decanted for sediment. Subdued nose of raspberries, light tobacco, and violets. Similar experience on the palate with unsweetened raspberries and tobacco predominating. Tannins are still quite grippy and just about overwhelmed everything else. Showed much better at the dinner table and paired well with gnocchi with bechamel and hot Italian sausage. Will probably wait a while to drink my remaining bottles.

Dried cherry, dried rose petals, and VA. Medium acid and tannin. Really nice concentration and finish. Palate mirrors the nose. Really classic aged Barolo in a great spot. Could go longer, but drink now if structure is desired.

This barolo started out quite tannic. After and hour or so it had opened up nicely and continued to improve for another hour by which time we had finished the bottle. Very nice if properly decanted.

Decanted 1 hour ahead. Great nose of flowers, cherry and spice. Medium bodied, nice balance of acid and tannin. No rush but this is in a nice place with a short decant. 92+ points

Slow O'd for two hours; decanted for 3.5. Quite astringent at first: our palates had been gentled by an aged Aubert UV-SL Chardonnay, and this came as a shock to the tongue and palate. Once we and the wine settled in together, it was delicious, though I would not characterize this as a a classic Barolo: no roses, no tar: powerful, but a bit more one-dimensional than I've come to expect from the Nebbiolo grape.

Penultimate of 4 bottles, last enjoyed this wine a few months prior. Did not strike me as a Barolo in this tasting. We all guessed it as a high quality Northern Rhone wine, perhaps Cote Rotie. Loved it, drink through 2028 or so.

Bright acidity. Tannins in the right spot. Red fruit, a little dusty, rose petal. Very enjoyable. Fine on its own, will be a bonus with the right food.

2nd bottle of 4, consumed in St Catharines, ON with dear friends. Notes of sour cherry pit, road tar, wet soil, some truffle, and sweet tobacco. Gritty tannins and great acidity, fantastic wine for food. Drink through 2028+.

Subsequent notes on this wine from 5 years ago. Medium reddish ruby in color with slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & raspberries with overtones of floral notes of roses & earthy/dusty notes, tar, leather, olives, mushrooms, minerals, spices, dried herbs & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe red fruit flavors of cherries, strawberries …

Nose is better than palate right now; nose is classic with mint, forest floor, tar, tobacco, dried cherry and roses; palate remains pretty structured and while drinkable with food it seems like the tannins could integrate further.

Needed 2 hrs in the decanter to wake up and smooth out. Otherwise was rather harsh and angular. On the elegant side with dried fruits and tar notes. Still with rather firm tannins but there’s a roundness to the fruit that keep it enjoyable. Have to think this is in early maturity and unlikely to get significantly better. With the structure was better with food.

A beautiful wine. Earthy, dusty, and floral, with cherries, raspberries, herbs, spices, and that woody, cedary note you get from old Barolo. This is really well made and shows fine balance poised against clever complexity, structure, and vinosity. This is still evolving and I would love to see where it's at in five years.

Corked half bottle. Damp cardboard, chemical, I’m pretty sure this was the real TCA deal. I was looking forward to this. 😭 Bartender broke the crumbly cork, only partially his fault I think. I’m so there a correlation between physically defective corks and TCA? I wonder. This isn’t my first coincidence.

Medium ruby with a touch of garnet around the edges. Pronounced aromas of herbs and dark cherry. Wonderful sweet cherries with a savoury note on the palate. Medium acidity with subtle resolved tannins. A lovely freshness made this so drinkable. Still has more to reveal i think. Will try another next year.

OCG’s Burlotto dinner (67 Pall Mall) : Not sure this bottle was in top condition - felt slightly advanced, and my glass had quite a bit of sediment. Quite rich, dark and stern (though not tannic). Lovely flavour, soft and long. A little heady though, and a bit clunky by comparison with tonight's other Barolos.

Jetzt offen. Sehr schokoladig.

Definitely in a sweet spot right now. Still some primary fruit but layered with wet earth, moss, dried flowers, leather, and sweet spice. Polished, clean Nebbiolo, in a semi-modern style. Will definitely benefit from time in a decanter or 5 additional years in bottle. Delicious.

Deep red, cedar, tobacco, and grilled herbs on the nose. Mature. Dried cherries, grilled herbs, still moderately tannic, enough acidity to stand up to red sauce and eggplant. Leather and mildly earthy on the finish.

Tar and Roses. Kidding. While it has those notes, it’s also full of deep dark dusty cherry, leather, licorice, dried cranberry, white pepper. Touch of cured meat at tobacco. Tannin is there, but it’s mellowed with age and masked with food. So I admit I’ve bought less high end Barolo but this makes me a believer.

Served with Christmas lunch, and unfortunately was a victim of the heat, when I likely should have stuck with the whites. Ok wine and starting to lose some of the baby fat, though there was some oak that seemed to be sneaking through. Have had better for the cash.

Lovely, ready to drink Barolo. Wonderful integration of fruit, acids and tannins. Served with a spectacular dish of bolognese (Thanks Jen!). For a middle tier barolo from a storied house, this smokes the scales for price to value. Glad I've been patient. My remaining bottles bring anticipation.
