Just flat out delicious. Earthy with black fruit on the nose, flavors of blackberry and cassis bordering on a fruit bomb! Silky smooth with a solid tannic core, long luxurious finish

Plum with the touch of smoke. Pronounced plum fruit continues and ends with touch of mint. Pleasant wine.

Textbook flavors, ripe dark fruits, fruit bomb, no room for subtlety to show, no dynamics. Not much development with aeration, mid palate is flat, fruit intensity becomes thin on the mid palate, balance is neglected near the end shown by long unpleasant finish and the alcohol burn becomes noticeable. Okay wine.

Such a beautiful color to go along with the wonderful flavor. At 8+ years old, it is drinking beautifully. So full of dry, dark cherry balanced with rich deep earthiness. This is Chester Kidder at its best!

A consistent winner! Dark berry, mushroom(?) and mineral flavors are in perfect balance with acids and tannins. The finish is excellent, too. Ready to drink without decanting.

Good wine for a dinner party. Rich red blend that was promising from the first and through to the last. A favorite of the night.

Still excellent. Rich dark fruit, ripe but no jam. Long finish. Tannins a bit muted this bottle.

Tonight, after four years of aging, this was much better behaved, more approachable, seamless and well integrated than earlier tastings. Dark blackish inky purple, full bodied, powerful, dense/rich, yet nicely balanced, ripe layered dark berry fruits are accented by spicy oak, flavors of bitter dark chocolate, dark currants and cassis with silky mouthfeel and firm tannins lingering with a long, drawn-out finish. Delicious - perfect pairing with grilled beefsteak dinner. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2023/02/long-shadows-chester-kidder.html

Still very primary, but tasty. I prefer a few of their other reds for style.

Definitely a big red as a dinner wine. Maybe at peak but will hold for several years.

The long spicy and peppery finish just puts this bottle of wine over the top. Chester Kidder has lots of earth along with the dark fruit and spice. As well as a velvety mouthfeel, the flavors are so nicely layered and complex. We have always enjoyed Chester Kidder and this is a excellent vintage.

This is a delicious red blend from Washington State. Showing blackberries, coffee, chocolates, vanilla, cedar, earth, light vegetables, licorice, spices and tobacco leaf. Full bodied with medium acidity. Dry on the palate and very fruity. Nicely balanced with a great mouthfeel and nice complexity. Good right out of the bottle and better with airtime. After 90 minutes of airtime, tannins comes out. Tangy and rich. Spicy and interesting. Feels like a mix of Bordeaux and a Napa blend. Very interesting …

A solid blend, but not special. Still drinks young, has a little bite that will likely subside with more age.

Decanted this one for about 30 min. Seemed very closed down this time around. Where other bottles showed their fruit aggressively up front, this one was quite shy. The structure really came through more than the fruit, making it less enjoyable than our other bottles. We were wondering if it was going through a dumb phase...Kind of bummed this is the last one as it would have been fun to see it develop with a handful of additional years in …

Inky in color with a short purplish rim. On the nose plums, black currants, blackberries, cedar, licorice, light alcohol, vanilla, light earth, chocolates, espresso, wildflowers, violets, tobacco and peppercorn. Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with blackberries, black plums, cherries, cedar, licorice, spices, peppercorn, coke, black olives, coffee, chocolates, tobacco and beef jerky. Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a beautiful red blend from …

Paired with chicken tacos (not bad!). Tasting notes consistent with prior bottles. This is one of my favorite wines from 2016. While big and full of fruit, it has ample structure to make it interesting. Drink now with air - 2030+.

Very nice in every category from start to finish. Fruit is there, nice, nut not too distinct. Medium dark stone fruit and berry. Perhaps the finish is the stand out feature, it is long and pleasant. Certainly ready to drink now.

Allowed to open in a large Bordeaux Riedel glass for half hour, this wine has a rich, red fruit and meaty bouquet. This wine has a very dark garnet color with a palate full of blackberry, chocolate, and pipe tobacco. Very balanced acidity with a round feel that lasts through a satisfyingly long, pleasing finish! Ready now and should be for years to come! Actually enjoyed it with a pairing with caramelized, seared scallops.

Subdued aromas dominated by alcohol at first even though slow ox'd for 2.5 hrs. Opened up somewhat while in glass but the aroma never matched the palate. The dark fruit taste was more mellow and integrated than I expected from the first whiffs.

A real hit at dinner party. I decanted for 3 hours ahead of time - very desirable to lighten the tannins. Compared with 1989 Haut Brion. Nose was better but the Haut Brion was more complex and had a longer lingering taste. Might actually improve with a few years.

Matured nicely. Smooth front to back with just a hint of tannin and acid that really complimented the grilled ribeyes. Nice long finish was a bonus.

The comments below from 2016-2017 are spot on. This is a big wine that is extremely soft and luxurious. It’s had plenty of time on the bottle to mellow and mature. There is still quite a bit of structure if you want to set it sit another 3-5 years but if you felt like enjoying it now you won’t be disappointed.

- Brick color with medium forming legs with a medium/full body with a long finish - This was my favorite Washington red - after a three day whirlwind tasting at several of the top producers. Wine seems made to drink now, but with structure that should also cellar for 5+ years. Smooth, round and full of flavor with a long finish. Reminds me of an older Leonetti. I also like the price point of $50. Spent near double that for …

Dark purple color. Deep and dark on the nose with currants, fig paste, roasted plums mixing with notes of charcoal, mocha, vanilla, some spicy, bourbon cask elements. Firm tannins on the palate, this is a bold and concentrated wine but the acid helps it out a lot. Deep currants and black cherries blend with some black olive and spiced black tea notes. Long and full, with notes of coffee and coconut on the finish. Delicious, but it could use two …
