Very good. Ready to drink. But missing the wow factor.

Frey's Cat Ranch (Somewhere in the Northern Burbs, MN) : Very dark red color. PNP, small taste. Ripe, primary, cherry, blackberry, vanilla, fruit forward, simple. 88+ to 89pts.

Purchased in March 2022 and cellared. Deep purple red body with magenta bubbles around edge of glass. Nose of strawberry, maple syrup and violets. Palate is velvety and balanced with chocolate, candied strawberry, hints of cola and spicy blackberry and pepper. Finish has heat from acid and alcohol but its within reason and works well with food. This reminds me a little of a well balanced Californian zinfandel (not overly fruity or over-extracted) or even a Northern Californian Pinot Noir …

From memory so no detailed notes. A voluptuous vanilla and plum driven wine. A great wine with steak — not as interesting on its own. Not hot but definitely heavy. Score: 91. Relative to expectations: +

PnP, cool. Clear, Deep dark purple. Big nose. Wonderful full body Malbec. Perfect integration and tannin, rich, powerful but not over extracted. Exceptional stuff and a great value. Nothing off. $28

Either our palates have changed all of a sudden or this wine has entered a dumb phase or worse. Again, no off flavors and a good nose, but missing something major mid-palate. Acid is there, tannins are smooth, but it’s just lacking something.

For some reason this bottle just didn’t have it. Rather bland on the palate. Nothing wrong per se but just lacking the oomph of previous experiences with the same wine. Will have to try again.

Nice Malbec for the price, nose of violets and blueberry. Medium bodied with just enough acidity and good fruit too. 90-91

Highly recommend and a very good QPR wine at the average CT acquisition price. A reasonable restaurant wine as well - we had it popped & poured tableside at Webb's Custom Kitchen in Gastonia NC. Drink or hold - approaching a very reasonable mature drinking window, would decant for an hour at home right now but still very youthful and with proper cellaring I suspect this has a decade+ to go. Medium - full bodied, solid fruity acidic core with …

Consistently outstanding. Picking up rose water, plums, spices. Complex, deep and rich enough to have with the heaviest of meals.

Outstanding. 1 hour decant. Medium acidity and tannin profile with concentrated dark fruit, tobacco, and oak notes. Very very well balanced. Drinks like a robust new world CS and would stand up to any food no matter how rich. For $30, this is a great value in wine.

This is one of those wines that elevates the whole category of Argentinian Malbec. Popped and poured, but after about 30 minutes, this wine began to evolve in the glass. Mainly plum, blackberry, and baking spice on the nose. Medium-bodied palate. Great with food because it has a very nice acidity backbone. The tannins are very soft and on the sides of the tongue. The wine finishes long, with cherry and good acidity.

Pretty berry and plum flavors with moderate acidity and tannin. Nice accents of cocoa and spice.

Though not exactly a "light" wine, I see a refreshing minerality in the Vina Cobos bottles that helps offset the lush, ripe fruit. This is a great one with a richer meal, maybe burgers or steaks on the grill.

Very nice wine - probably the best one I tasted with fscov during our small tasting. Ready for consumption already, this checks all the boxes regarding this varietal. Of course it is neither really complex or long, but it is excellent for what it is. A nice surprise. Complete notes on Instagram at brl_winelover.

I should be arrested by infanticide. Just opened 2017. The color is amazing deep purple with strong violets, inking the glass. An explosion of plums, violets, moka. Very persistent and long finish leaving a sweet toffee scent in the glass. Almost perfect. Drink from 2020 - 2027.

tldr: give it at least an hour in the decanter; mellows with time. 4 hours of air and it’s a different wine, rounded out. reminiscent of california with the fruit and oak; a robust wine that trades away finesse for power. enjoyable and well-made, if not straightforward in approach. Color: med purple. Nose: prominent black/dark fruit, some graphite/dust, oak, and alcohol heat; proportioned well; still very fresh and young. Body: full. Acid: high; mouth watering. Alcohol: guessed 13.8%; actual 14.5%; …
