Groundwork Grenache Blanc

I’m a sucker for aged wine on the restaurant list! Was decent value, but modestly over the hill as the alcohol was very evident. Not bad, just not my style. Should have gone with the ‘21 Sandhi Chard or ‘14 Rhone blend.

Lots of pears, pear cider, and white flowers. A wisp of sweetness is balanced by adept acidity.

Balanced and pretty.

This bottle showed very, very nicely. Classic southern Rhone Blanc profile, full bodied and bright on the palate. I know we banned "punches above its' weight" but it really does present as a much higher priced wine. Served with fresh shrimp and grouper. Nice match.

Sweet and fizzy. Flawed?

Banana, papaya, slight floral and minerality on the nose. Butter and minerality on the palate with banana and pear after some breathing. To buttery/savory for me. Interesting considering the wine has never seen oak.
