Blackberry and cherry. Dark ruby red color. Black pepper and spice with tannins that are softer now.

This is a great example of how a flawed bottle still can be great. The cork crumbled and was removed in pieces. The wine had a disturbing wet cardboard smell which did not dissipate. Despite that, the taste was solid. Strong cherry fruit, oak and leather notes, a touch of iron, some roasted meat and a hint of apricot on the palate. The finish was flawed a bit by a bitter wet newspaper taste, but that quickly dissipated. No two …

Popped and poured. This performed right out do the starting. Attractive nose blackberry, tobacco and earth. The wine is full bodied, but remarkably elegant for a Petite Syrah. Layers of ripe red and black berry fruit, roast meats, minerals and spices. Very youthful with plenty of life ahead. Might be the best petite Syrah I’ve ever had.’

Decanted for about an hour. Consumed with food and on its own. Seems to have shed most of its tannins. The bottle had a lot of coating of tartrates and stuff along with sediment. What emerges is a more of a medium body wine. Nice fruit but still with some backing. Drinking well imo but is balanced enough to go a on. 92+

Decanted 3 hours. Dark red. Aromas of blackberries, licorice and tar. Palate more medium-bodied than expected, slightly lush with lots of blue and black fruits and somewhat elegant tannins.

Amazing balance and fine tannins for a relatively young PS. Inky through and through. Held up well over three days. Not much complexity to add interest beyond the fruit. Very pleasant but not exciting.

Good over two days. Bright, balanced, earthy, and with exceptionally well mannered tannins. Classic PS in all other respects in a nice early drinking window.

Tannic crunch, monolithic, as PS is prone to deliver. Time has improved it to something above an expensive, unidimensional disappointment.

Decanted 1/2 hr. Drank over 2 days. Day 2 was a bit better than day 1. Lively tastes of darker fruits.

Just delicious petit syrah. I like it at just above cellar temp. Inky, red and purple fruit. Fresh, minty citrus fruit forward Cali red wine. Love it.

Polished with the unexpected subtle flavors Turley manages to coax out of this notoriously brute grape. Liked it.

PnP. Nose is powerful, floral, and spicy with hints of oak. Palate has jammy blueberries balanced with pepper and lovely dry tannins and a light acidity. After about an hour of decanting, fruit and chocolate begin to emerge on the nose and stewed blue fruit comes to the front.

A huge and generous wine. Hints of mint set among the dust driven tannins. Still enjoyable and big. Ready now, and I don't thInk it will get much better than now.

Exploding with fruit--purple and blue. Tannins have softened considerably, making this easy to drink now, and it would seem it has many years ahead. Drank alongside the 2010, and they were quite similar, though I modestly preferred the 2009. The 2010 had a bit more harsh tannins, and possibly some light green notes.

Initial impressions: this is a beautiful PS. It's got the blackberry and floral notes that this variety can do at its best, along with a very nicely balanced acidity and just a bit of tannin, at least shortly after opening the bottle. Day 2 this is just as elegant and refined. A fantastic wine.

Just the right amount of oak, blueberry, medium acidity, and a smooth lingering finish. Very nice.

This was a bit tannic right after opening, but after breathing for an hour, it opened up. Very full bodied - lots of pepper, jam and a long finish. It will probably benefit even more from another year or two in the bottle. Be patient and you’ll be rewarded!

Complex and rich, with bitter chocolate notes over plum and blackberry. Stood up to a pasta in beet pesto, echoing the iron, blood and earth in the beets.

A little disappointing given the hype and fame (and $$) that surrounds this winery. Inky dark and full of spicy fruit but lacked any particular depth. Certainly not a bad or poorly made wine, but rather one that failed to deliver great joy. Solid.

I've enjoyed Turley Zins for year but now I know why so many people rave about them aged. Boy was this a head turner with loads of fresh earth mineral, veggies, umami, sweet blue and red fruits, gravel, chalk and pepper. The best petit syrah i've ever had hands down.

Until yesterday I did not know Petite Sirah could be so well made and delicious. Today I do! Tasted doubled blind and though the deep crimson with purple hues color proved problematic, I could not get away from guessing New World Syrah. On the second day there are noticeable notes of Napa terroir, lots of herb and olive. Interesting. Thank you ES!

I was looking for a wine to stand up to a richer chicken thigh and parsnip dish. This one did the trick. Definitely on the lighter end of the petite spectrum - almost more like a Ribera actually in its profile as there was a certain sanguine nature to it. Bit of blood and rust rather than the typical PS "blackness". So while out of character for the varieta, and for the Turley style, it hit the spot. I had …

Golfwine's tasting notes are spot on, although I liked this wine more than he/she did. Definitely would not have guessed this to be a petite sirah, and a Rhone blend would have been a better guess. I found more red fruit, with a spicy, peppery note that was great. Good balance, and not at all overly tannic. Nice.

Would have never pegged this as a Napa/No. Coast source, let alone a Petite! Dark ruby with only a hint of deep purple. The nose is totally No.Rhone-ish, Central Coast earth, which is what I'd have guessed, 9x out of 10; put it in front of me and I'd say, "Paso Syrah Blend". Ehhhhhh!..WRONG! Rich fruit though not nearly dominant or even remotely sweet; great, sweet acidity (which some might mistake for fruit) and totally "non-Petite" tannins - smooth, almost …

Highly spoofalated and manipulated, burnt rubber and iodine. The oak is intrusive and offputing. Fruit is slightly sour.
