Domaine du Vieux Lazaret Ventoux

This was a very pleasant surprise. There is concentration and layers of flavor way beyond the price point. This is a big, rich wine with almost "New World" style fruit. The color is dark reddish purple. The nose starts with roses and red fruit, continues with wet earth aromas and minerals, then some vanilla. smoke and darker fruit. $9 by the glass at Barrington Country Bistro. Deep garnet color, with notes of lavender, black fruit, kirsch and plum., with subtle earth and spice undertones. Plum, spice and raspberry qualities on the palate, persisting through the finish. Paired nicely with calf's liver and roasted shallots in a rich cognac sauce.

Compared to my previous note this year in the bottle did the wine really good. The cherry fruits are still there but better. Some pleasant spiciness is showing now as well. There is some sweetness, pleasant acidity and round tannin. A very friendly and tasty wine.
