A bit green - quite a lot of herbaceous notes. It's not unpleasant, but it certainly renders this wine much less value than the price I paid. I generally love this wine from Gia, but not this vintage it seems. Disappointed.

This bottle was definitely getting to the end of its drinking window, and just beginning to show the slight impact of oxidisation. However, the cork was long and in good condition. Beautiful dark chocolate, coffee, black pepper and anise notes. Very long with lovely union of tertiary fruit, acid and structure. Drink up. The winemaker Rick Kinzbrunner is a genius, having worked at Petrus and Stags Leap before settling in Beechworth.

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of deep ruby colour, with fading rim and legs. Seems to have less acidity than other vintages, although a lovely broad and big mouthfeel (seems to be putting on weight in bottle). Really improved and deepened with air - this seems to have been an under-rated Giaconda Shiraz vintage. Needs more time than other years to show its great potential - although will always be a lighter and more elegant style than the 2013. Drink 2020-2030. 93+pts

Open with a very pongy nose, that opened up after breathing to show nice plum fruit characters and soft spice. Not improving any more but nice, soft, aged shiraz.

Much better than the last bottle I had opened the previous month. This is more like it. The ripe Aussie fruit is there in spades, but now there's also a much more vivid earthy, smoky, and faintly leathery character with higher toned herbal and minty accents augmenting the rich fruit. There's still a bit of grainy tannin, though it softens with an hour in the decanter, and this is a great wine to go with meat right off the grill.

This bottle shows almost no flavour development compared to the ones I opened in 2011, but the structure seems more resolved. The flavours are still very primary, all ripe black cherry and plummy fruit tinged with faint minty and leathery notes, not especially complex but hits the spot on a freezing winter night.

This is such a different Shiraz to those I usually drink. This wine is berry fruit sweet - aroma and taste, and appears much younger than it's 2001 label. One bottle of this left which will remain laying down for a least 5 years.

Very youthful; full of fresh black cherry and plummy fruit accented with savoury leathery notes and high toned herbal and methol elements. Pure, rich but and well balanced with bright acids and impressive length. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes with some more time in bottle.

2001 Giaconda Warner Vineyard Shiraz, Victoria (Lip Smackin’ Goodness) While some here may be familiar with Giaconda due to their chardonnay offering, I propose that the 2001 Shiraz will do more than turn a few heads. I decanted the translucent light rust/blue liquid for one hour before returning it to the bottle. Of note, it began a bit hot to the nose, but the 14.5% alcohol by volume ceased being noticeable in merely a quarter hour. Another year or two …
