Lovely tropical mango and passion fruit nose. Not hugely sweet and possibly lacking the acidity necessary to cut through and balance all that richness and fruit. Nonetheless, a very respectable wine for the price point.

It's delicious. But the sweetness is slightly outpacing the acid and spice so, while this is a totally lovely treat, it's not quite reaching the heights of other bottles and vintages of the Royal Tokaji 5 Puttonyos. 11%, $40.

Tokaji is always a special experience and this was no different. Rich apricot notes and nice acid on the back palate to contrast the sweetness. In its prime drinking window but still plenty of life left.

Still enjoying what was a superb bin-end bargain from Lidl. Gorgeous rich fruit, honey, with plenty of judicious acidity to provide a perfect balance with no cloying character to the sweetness. Wish I had more! A late addition: a small sample kept in the fridge for almost two weeks was still excellent. An amazing wine.

I figured I would close out day 12 of Christmas with a little private celebration of my own. My first bottle of Tokaji. Initilaly, I get lots of dried Turkish apricots, orange peel, nutty oxidative notes, and burnt caramel with supporting flavors of golden raisins, ripe apple, mint, and smoke. Delicious as always, showing ripe apricot, orange peel, honey, tobacco, and smoke. Acidity is there in spades to keep it fresh, and I'd think this will still drink beautifully for years to come.

Three years since our last bottle. The same golden colour and an enticing rich and perfumed nose with pronounced honey and citrus. The palate combines primary honey flavours with many tropical fruits including mango, pineapple, and apricot. Long with good acidity to offset the delicate sweetness and avoid any cloying character. Lovely wine. As before, the wine kept very well in the fridge and was excellent 4 days later.

Robust botrytis character, on the nose and especially the palate. Nectar and peach aromas. Sweet, but enough acidity to keep it fairly balanced. Not the longest finish, but overall, this is a tasty one.

Similar to previous notes, this has nice intensity and zeal, great orange zest, and a very pretty oily texture. Has improved more with age. This lasted very well over the course of about four days, with vacuum seal in the refrigerator - virtually no change over that time.

Decent easy drinking sweet wine. It's much as I remember it being. Not something totally to blow one away (the Essenzia does do that, but as it was quite a bit more for quite a bit less volume we went with the more basic approach). Rich texture complemented by wonderful underlying acidity gives a freshness that makes these wines so delightful. Apricot and stone fruit with a honeyed marmalade quality. Long finish. Wonderful.

Nose of apricots, honey and lemon peel. Palate is is a mix of Orange marmalade with roasted apples and a bit of raisiny finish. A nice lemony overnote to everything. Not cloying but lacks an acidic tang to bring more freshness, not made up by the lemony overtone. Medium long finish.

Bu au resto AVV La Suite de Sherbrooke avec les FOUDUVINS, TheDanny, Bulle, Meursault et FrancoisD. Il a superbement accompagné les fromages Québecois. Lez est superbe, poires, miel, fleurs, caramel et amandes. En bouche, bel équilibre sucre acidité, du velours. Le caramel et le miel reviennent avec des abricots et une belle fraicher. In the glass, medium orange-gold. On the nose, a mix of mango, papaya, and pineapple. On the palate, sweet and syrupy, with a bit of citrus acidity, but perhaps a bit more dimensional than the other 2007 single vineyard RTs we've had up to this point?
