Behrens Family Winery Notes From the Underground

Just drank this last night and once it opened up, it was so smooth and delicious! Raspberry notes and velvet finish. So glad I bought two! Was a little worried that it was approaching the end of the drinking window but this was such a delightful Grenache!

Quite lovely CA grenache. Stewed ripe strawberry and a great balance of tannin spice. A little heavier and sweeter than i prefer grenache, this was very close to a syrah. All the same, this was a pretty good bottle. I hope my 2018s do the same. Double decanted and 5 hrs of air. Same quality next day. Pretty good juice.

Dominant black cherry flavors, some stewed cranberries, a bit of heat. Nice long finish with cherry candy and notes of paprika and light black pepper, medium acidity, well integrated tannins. Had opened significantly by the end of the bottle.

Extremely young and very different form the 2009 Pandora that it followed, but this has the stuffing to live up to the Alban hype. The red fruit was powerful and pure and the harsh tannins will calm down over the next few year. I' would love to try this again in about 2023.
