I think it’s coming together nicely. Red fruits, leather and iron. A bit awkward but should continue to improve. Seems to have great potential.

This is finally almost ready out of the half. Had a few initially 1-2 years ago then sat on them as they were too tannic and quite quiet. Now it’s getting a bit more approachable, you can actually coax some aromas out of the glass, and the mouthfeel feels more like concentration rather than just a drying wall of tannin. Restaurant purchase - splash decanted. This was quite good if very young. Dark fruit of black currant, plum, black cherry, with underbrush and black tea, a hint of iron. The palate is big and full but the fruit balances the tannin reasonably well. It’s excellent with food now but has lots of room and time. Good stuff

Strawberry on nose, acidity is still quite piercing. Finish is not long but it is precise, with tannins still a little prominent. Cherry finish, mostly fruit, limited amounts of tertiary notes. Will wait 5 years for the next bottle

Voilà un Gouges immédiatement accessible dès son ouverture. Très joli fruit, aucun boisé et surtout aucune sucrosité en lien avec le millésime. Pas hyper complexe, mais très élégant pour un Nuits et à l'équilibre parfait. Prêt à boire ou à garder 5 ans et plus.

Gouges Porrets is not a great 1C in warm years like this I think. Very clunky, almost plummy and the oak is indelicate. Structured well I suppose, but too extracted and ripe for me.

Deep dense stuff with a rather taut feel. Some at the table noted excess alcohol in the nose. This is rather huge and backward at this point and desperately needs some time at this point. Definitely could use a decant. More impressive than delicious at this point. But, impressive. 92+?

Drank this at a good time. Bottle opened for around 30 minutes before pouring. Lovely crimson red. Well balanced and surprisingly elegant while maintaining the rusticity and earthiness NSGs are known for. I enjoyed this tremendously and it is in a good window now.

Pronounced aromas of strawberry, raspberry, smoke, clove, flowers, violets, perfume. Slight VA but nothing off putting. High acid, medium+ very ripe velvety tannin, medium body, medium+ flavour intensity, long finish with earth, mushroom, clove, and sweet spice. Silky mouth feel. Dinner at IT-SPD-JWL. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of pretty red cherries, sweet spices, touch of red licorice. Developing. First glass was a corvin pour, no air, and was so tight it wasn't enjoyable. left it for 2 weeks as that corvin softens wines like a slow ox. second glass or two were great! deep and delicious, so decent decant recommended, at least an hour.

Dark garnet color. Nose very restrained with some red berries coming out together with faint forest floor notes. Nice balance overall, with elegant red berries, dark cherries, oak, menthol, cedar wood in the ending. Tannins are mellow, the ending medium. This has a lot of potential - this bottle seems a bit muted at this time but it can definitely improve with more time. Bright red and black cherry with an initial touch of that dried apple note that I’ve enjoyed in earlier vintages. Quenching acid with tooth-gripping tannins (I mean, this IS Gouges, NSG). Agree with Mjreb's note. Surprisingly approachable/drinkable now, but loads of potential with time. I’ll wait 3-5 more years to see where this goes.

Ripe and concentrated black fruit: Blackberries, black cherries, lots of soil, concentrated and dense, good length. Powerful wine which is approachable after a short decant, but upward potential. Great stuff.

Litigators' Wine Dinner (East Treasure, Clarke Quay, Singapore) : Very nice, and surprisingly opened for business - even considering the Gouges's more approachable stylings these days. The nose was ripe but lovely, with notes of earth and wet stone underlying sweeter, riper notes of blueberries and dark cherries. Very nice. Tasting at Domaine Henri Gouges (Nuits Saint George) : Third vintage of this wine in the tasting (following 2018 & 2017) which is a cool comparison. More bold fruit profile (and even a touch roasted) with more earth and iron showing as well. I found this vintage to have the most fruit and the most structure of three, and also it would seem to require the most time to achieve harmony. 91-92+ potential.

Burgundy, Day 2 (Beaune, France) : This felt a little shut down and hard today, showing a little heavyset especially after the more elegant 2017 and 2018. It does seem to be a bit of an awkward time to open 2015s, so this may not be too much of an exception. The tannins feel grainy and hard, and this just doesn't have quite the same level of expressiveness as my note from 1.5 years ago.

Mini Henri Gouges NSG Les St Georges vertical 2005, 2011, 2015, served blind, purplish, double decanted, got better as the night progressed, rich, concentrated but with finesse

Don't open this. It's not like the fruitless and super-tannic Gouges of yore, but it's just as inaccessible - super-compact, tight, and constricted. There is deep blue/black fruit presented in a very tensile fashion but it never lets loose or shows what else is going on. Literally 3 days later the leftovers start showing some fragrance of berries and oak and the wine is more sweetly red-fruited.

The wine of the night by good measure. I believe that it is underrated in the marketplace. The explosive palate pushes its classic earthy and spice filled profile. Tightly wound but shows so much promise. Will last the rest of my lifetime. Wow. (97+)
