Kechris Tear of the Pine Retsina

Initially it's a nose-full of resin and pine forest. Bit of further sniffing gives oxidised white peaches, grilled salty lemons, rosemary and vanilla Lemons, oranges and yellow apples. Bit herby, and the resin flavour gives it a touch of bitterness. Buttery roundness, medium+ body, with a nice acidity to carry the weight. This is big, nice, and actually feels quite suitable for colder weather.

N. Round, green wood, mineral, hints of (cedar) needles/wood (typical but on the elegant side here), more wood, nuances of butter&nuts, lemon (peel), not bad for 72h open in the fridge (with a cork) T. Astonishingly vivid acid, citrus fruits (peel, fresh, jam), nice an complex, broken green twigs, then a background symphony of the cedar wood/needles, really impressive if you are into this style of wine and easily the best retsina that I ever had. Really nice retsina with pine needle, cedar and citrus coming out as you pop the cork. Good body structure as the wine is made with assyrtiko grapes. Aronatised wines are not my cup of tea but retsina pairs well with some roustic Greek dishes like fried cod.

Mycket blöt sten, oxiderade toner och skämd frukt på näsan. I munnen hittar jag kanel, müsli, passionsfrukt, mandarin, citron och mineraler. Vinet är kärvt och motvalls, men också briljant och eget. Lite lagring gör nog gott, men här och nu är det ett mycket fascinerande vin som jag verkligen uppskattar.

Greek white wine from Macedonia: Assyrtiko. Fermented in new oak barrels of varying origins and types. Aged for 6 months on the lees. 13,5 % alcohol. Pale golden color. Aromas of pine needles, minerals, honey melon and hints of lemon. Distinct flavors of pine resin and lemon. Hints of green apple and vanilla. Strong minerality in the background. Dry. Medium body.
