This was a lot richer, lacking the acidic-cut/tension of the 2008, tasted side by side...it was still exceptional. This is the wine that I could see my mother-in-law preferring. On the nose, I could see the scents of vanilla, yellow apple, & pear throwing off someone into thinking it's a Chardonnay. There was a depth, elegance, & focus to this that brings a thought of harmony to mind. Medium bodied, med+ acidity, with scents of dried nectarine, ruby grapefruit, and faint notes of white pepper. Wow. This is an incredible wine at a great price - I paid about $12, and it has the complexity of a $25-30 bottle at least. Nose mineral, petrol, white pepper, herbal notes dominating. Some pear and gooseberry. Palate balanced, still fresh, intense acidity lifting the fruit and floral notes. Minerals just coat the mouth - for a very long finish - easily over a minute of fruity minerals last and last.

In a really nice place. Golden in color, with a sweet nose of honey, flowers and pepper. Fully bodied with enough acid to keep it fresh. I'd say ready to go.

Renner vineyard w. status of Erste Lage. 50 years old vines. Matured in big barrels and 18 months sur lie. Yellow-golden colour, persistent med+ acid, the alcohol is a bit too dominating. Lacks balance and finesse. My notes: Honey, flowers, Malibu rhum, soap, mint, apricot, caramelised lemons, popcorn, brioche, sage, bitter almonds and Islay Whisky.

This is SOO good! - Medium deep gold, nose of nutty honeysuckle, roasted hazelnuts, perhaps a bit of white peach - the palate is awesome, with a nutty, lemon and nut pastry essence, great length, outstanding freshness, almost buzzes with energy, but showing complex aromas and flavours at 9 yrs old - wish I had a case of this loveliness...

I think Kirk has this pretty much right. I get white fruit (reminiscent of honey dew melon, Asian pear) on the nose. White pepper and lychee are also good descriptors. Mouthfeel is waxy. Spicy. A little heavy relative to the nose- which makes other gruners comes across as four-square to me- but here I think works reasonably well.

Made in a somewhat oxidative style, this has intriguing flavors of peaches, melon and roasted nuts in a medium-to-full bodied frame that is nicely balanced by racy acidity on the finish; Different than the Gruners I'm accustomed to, although I really enjoyed it

First time having a "tradition" style gruner. Very interesting and quite different than the classic style. Deep yellow color. Yellow apple and peach with good minerality. Very round and supple, aromatic, and unctuous.

This is growing into a full bodied, golden beast...scents of grapefruit and white pepper dominate the nose with an almost waxy-like mouthfeel this just seems to grow in the mouth as it's quite full bodied. Dominate flavors are tropical fruits and citrus along a medium-short finish that starts to feel slightly clipped as the wine continues to get air. Excellent.

A bit of a strange Gruner Veltliner as it is made in the "traditional" method. Much more round and a bit of an oily texture, not unlike a Viogner or a Marsanne/Rousanne blend. In a blind tasting, this proved to be very confusing, and the low acidity had no one guessing Gruner. It had tropical notes and mango that made this wine very pleasant, but perhaps not for everyone.

Slightly spicy fruit in great shape. In addition, pear, mineral, citrus and green leaves with good grapefruit bitterness in the end. A light spritzyness liven up the overall impression. An elegant and useful all-round wine of good quality that measures up between vintages.

Not much happening on the nose. Broad and ripe on palate with tarte tatin, apricot and cream. Good concentration, balance with a moderate structure.

Pale yellow with greenish glints. Citrus, smoke, herb, tart white fruit, zest, minerally palate and finish. Mouthfeel is somewhat steely with a a bit of a creamy, leesy touch as it warms and opens with air. A balanced wine despite voracious acidity and quite reticent fruit.

This is still just too young. While outstanding (with about 3 hours air time) it clearly is just not ready to open yet and show all the power and flash that will be there in another 2+ years. Everything is dialed up on this, fruit is intense and powerful, high acidity, and even firm tannins. Medium-long finish (20-30 seconds). Be patient with this...check in on it again in 2013

Not a typical Grüner - richer, more leesy, tons of apple and citrus brightness. Dense and layered, but not cloying or whacked with wood. Intellectual and hedonistic at the same time. Excellent.

Really solid GruV showing the typical white pepper profile. Somewhat vegetal on the nose but the fruit dose peek through as it warms in the glass. White peach and lime come to mind. Make no mistake though, this is a mineral driven wine, with tons of acid. Good if you like this style.

Took me a while to warm up to this wine. Slightly bitter at first, but after an hour or so open it smoothed out. Now just minerally goodness, with some melon and lime, and some nice marine flavors on the finish. Fairly short finish is limiting my score, but overall quite a nice veltliner. Pretty tasty with some homemade yellow curry, but I imagine it would be awesome with some scallops. 88+ pts.

All summer, this wine has been putting its best forward on day 2 and this bottle was no different. Crisp, ripe appley flavors, a touch of honey, robust flavors that are sharpened by a fine acidity. Good stuff if you can wait a day.

Liked this more than last time. When I was young I loved Kirks Creaming Soda. That is what this tastes like, but only 5% of the sickly sweet intensity, all wrapped up in acid and mineral makes for a lovely wine, quite typical of my experiences of this varietal.

on day 1 there just wasn't much going on, not bad, just mute. the next day the wine was lovely, showing classic aromas and flavors and a soft sour cream like base. excellent value at the price. i would decant next time or open in advance.
