Portweinmesse 2024 Leverkusen: 96+

Warm Douro nose of cistus, roasted stones, scrub, a little menthol, and fruit seeds. Good purity and freshness, and lush black fruits. The palate has a lovely juiciness but also some chalky/grainy tannins which arrive early. Juiciness prevails, there is a pleasing sweetness and an interesting lift and delicacy. Lots of red fruits here, some sappy touches, the whole feels rather fine and persistently fragrant.

Bought two bottles of this at Weingalerie, Berlin.. I'd heard from a few places that this was a very good drinking port now, so decided to pop one last night to accompany a steak.. Magenta/purple color. Lots of characteristics of table wine, with sweetness and more concentration added. some earthiness here as well. Comlex wine, only slightly hot despite it's young age.

Tasted at the Dow's Port Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia - Extremely dark color. Yeasty, floral nose. Very young. Not as good as the 1998 Senhora da Ribeira. Full bodied. Nice long finish. More elegant than the Bomfim. 88 points.
