Nose of raspberries. Remarkable fruit for an eleven-year old Pinot - perhaps even too much. Thoroughly enjoyable.

A lovely older PN. This opened after tasting a flawed 2003 of the same Zio Tony vineyard that had to be tossed.

Dark and clear ruby red color with a fragrant nose of raspberries and maybe some tart cranberry mixed in...very pleasant. Great structure and finesse with the fruit at the forefront, and a demure, but lingering finish. Enjoyed without food...a better than good sipper.

excellent nose, bit light bodied and fruited, but gains depth after airing 30-45 minutes

Haggis brought this to the Cadeau dinner at Otis' house. Deep reddish purple color. Spice and blackberry on the nose. This was very zinlike. A big fruity overbearing wine. It really stood out in the lineup of 12 Pinots at this dinner. 87-88 points.

I got a lot of candied cherry fruit off of this wine. Mix in some apple aromas, a touch of molasses and bbq on the palate, and a medicinal finish.

I brought this to Otis' last night as part of the Tom Mortimer dinner (FANTASTIC evening...food, company, wines). Another outstanding Otis menu...wow. Anyway, I like this Martinelli more than other people seem to, but still prefer the Blue Slide Ridge and even the Reserve. That said, this has that earthiness (or "dampness" that young Miss Otis described) that I really like. A great little stinker (the wine, I mean, not Otis' daughter!). Cherries, pepper, mushrooms...very smooth, I thought. I now …

Haggis brought this to the Le Cadeau dinner hosted by Otis and his wife. Ruby color, with cherry cola and red fruit notes. Red fruit on the palate turns a bit tart on the finish.

This was a Haggis contribution to the CWM dinner at Otis' house. This had a promising nose of cherries, spice and some cola typical of a Gary's vineyard. More cherry and some earth on the palate. However, there was a coppery aftertaste for me with this wine that was offputting - somewhat like blood in the mouth. Nobody else seemed to find this a problem, but I couldn't get past it.

I’m pleasantly surprised. Lots of damp earth mixed with dark red cherries and bit of barnyard. A bit shallow in the mouth, with a short finish that trails with a cheery cola ending. Overall, I like this, I wish it fuller with a longer and more rounded finish.

Deep red color. Initially (at cellar temperature) this was a bit tight and almost green smelling and tasting. After warming up 10 degrees, it started to come around. Sweet spices, cherry compote, maybe some cola on the nose. On the palate this showed warm, red fruit flavors, bright cherry, and had good acidity. Not a typical Martinelli in that there was plenty of balance between the acid and the fruit. The mid-palate was a bit one-dimensional, and the finish was …

Still a dark purple color, right ot the rim. I'm not super-sensitive to TCA, but this seemed a bit corked. I think there was a lot of potential to this, so that's too bad.

Surprisingly elegant for a Martinelli. Lots of red fruit (mainly raspberry) on the nose with a little tar and loamy earth. Medium bodied, with nicely focus cherry with an earthy edge. The finish is a little soft but there is just enough acid. Drink soon.

Rich color, good viscosity. Muted nose of asian spice and white pepper. Similar notes on palate, with addition of stone fruits. Finish a bit short and with a hint of heat which surprised given its sub 14% alcohol.

Women Winemakers at Suze: Funky, slightly gamy and a touch metallic. Plummy, pruney, tomatoe. Touches of cola and earth. A bit hot. Lots of complexity, but there is nothing here to keep me coming back.

Opened, but not decanted, one hour before tasting. Chocolate and bing cherries. Mrs. mbansek disagreed on the chocolate, thought it might be more smoke, or toasted oak. A nice wine, but not too special. About three hours after opening, this one really began to sing. Convinced mrs. mbansek to try it again (she was not too thrilled at first), and don't think I had two more sips after that. Her impression was one of cherry popsicles. While not too far …
