With vegetable starters. We poured this too cold, my fault, so it spent some time warming up. Christmas Wimps 2024 - Los Reyes Magos (La Trompette) : First time lucky enough to try a Keller GG that wasn't too young. Ripe, tropical, even nose. Surprisingly soft! So sensual and hedonistic, even pillow-like. Would love to try this again.

Highly enjoyable and impressive, this shows bright, ripe Riesling fruit with a distinct impression of freshly picked stone fruit. Mineral and silky with the density and balance to improve for quite some time.

Dinner at RPM Seafood (Chicago, IL) : Many years since I've come across this bottle; it's still so good, and if anything, there's a serene maturity that has developed here. The fruit is plentiful and tropical and supplemented by lovely green herbs. Heightened aromatics here. On the palate, this is definitely sweet but also very dense and almost oily, with a slight phenol note giving this a little balance to the otherwise massive stature. A fantastic gold-label.

Opened in HK. Slow-oxed for a short while before serving. Probably should have breathed this more, and definitely should have been served colder in better glasses, but hey - just wasn't that kind of night. Still, an excellent showing for Keller, consistently great as always, and probably my preferred terroir compared to the Hubacker '16 I had recently. Lovely to share with B, Y and T!

Yeah, really like the way this is right now. Quite consistent with a bottle last year, where you get almost a bit of lychee spice on the nose. This feels like it might even has a little botrytis in it, given how spicy it is. Broad and opulent, with plenty of (seemingly) sweet tropical fruit on the palate. Delicious.

This is a very typical and refined Keller I believe. The core of citrus fruit, tropical fruit, minerals, hints of flowers and a barely noticeable note of petrol. Deep, long finish and lots of dry extract. No signs of ageing at all.

Medium gold color, darker than expected. Cork was about half saturated. Didn't seem like the freshest bottle. Not bad, but a bit unidimensional and lacked much zip or depth.

Friday night wine dinner at Edouard's - my first Keller!!! Petrol is subtle and not dominating which I guess is a good thing as one gets to pick tye filigreed nature of this wine otherwise. There is a sound acidic backbone. It is complex but discreet and not heady. One has to pay attention. Good+ but not a white wine epiphany.

This was an absolute stunner on pop and pour - incredibly floral nose and wonderful tropical notes of peaches, and razor sharp minerality on the palate that had a stupendously long finish. Had next to a '18 Schloss Liesler Wehlener Sonnenuhr GG and it was quite apparent that this is on a different level in terms of quality and winemaking (but it probably wasn't a fair comparison to begin with). Saturday hangout at Domaine (Chicago, IL) : Wow. This is a really different style of gold label than I've become accustomed to over the last few years. It feels more like an amped-up Kabinett more than a straight-up Keller GG, and that's certainly no bad thing. Brilliant herbal and spice notes on the nose, and a lithe, elegant palate that actually has more crispness and lightness than the typical Keller richness and weight. Absolutely stunning, electric stuff.

Kirchspiel Vertical (@Terkel) : Herbs and spicy notes combines with asparagus and green apples.. Very intense acidity combined with a chalky expression and a touch of botrytis. Very distinct wine with lots of personality.

Kirchspiel Vertical (@Terkel) : White pepper, spices and a touch of VA and coffee. Lovely and refined acidity with a overall fine balance. Lovely complexity.

Kirchspiel Vertical (@Terkel) : Vibrant acidity. Lime and apple fruit. Great wine.

2016 vintage

Green apple skin and flesh, dried mango, lemon rind, and slight petrol notes make for a youthful presentation of driven and vibrating flavors. The acid is beautifully honed and framed here without becoming to bracing. The contours are surprisingly "soft" on the back end. A wet granite note finishes off the delivery and adds an extra layer of interest on the tail. Really enticing stuff.

Absolutely delicious. Crushed seashells, ripe fruit, distinct minerals, and mouth coating weight and high acid. I could sip this all night long and have zero complaints. Like Collector1855 said, it’s clearly not at the level of Keller Abts E, but the Kirchspiel has a much different expression and it’s already so good for what it is.

Back in NL drinks (Utrecht) : [Restaurant purchase] Pop-up win bar Utregs Wijnhuis at Koenraad. PnP, medium intensity with lime, candied lemon, lemon zest, petrol, elderflower, jasmine, mango, peach, pear, pineapple. Kept developing in the glass. High acidity, very long finish. Super young but the restaurant price on this was so good that I couldn’t resist. Super precise and fresh acidity - not too dominant! The fruit feels very fine and elegant. Very complex structure. Although it’s very young it already feels beautifully balanced. The finish is super long. It has all I’m looking for in a great Riesling and it will evolve absolutely gracefully over the upcoming years. Can easily age until 2045. (IG)

The 2008 Kirchspiel shows typically for the vintage. A vintage I'm not often overly fond off. Green and white Asparagus mixed with fennel, grass, lime and unripe papaya on the nose. The palate is quite lean, very herbal with basil and Jasmin tea followed by lemon, red grapefruit and sea shell. A little dusty and shrill, but nicely balanced and noticeably less green on the palate than what the nose would suggest. No grand wine, but nice.
