Turned to vinegar…

Classic valdicava aromas but this really needed food and never really expressed itself very well. Maybe just a subpar auction bottle. Alas.

Am Gaumen griffig mit angenehmem Gerbstoff und Säure, natürlich wirkend, weniger gemacht, ehrlich erdig.

A serious wine worthy of the price. Starts with earthy and underbrush nose aromatics. Further whiffs show asphalt and a sulpher laden and cedar wood aromatic. In mouth I get more blueberry than cherry, and plum skin. Mid pallete reveals complex spices with slight cinnamon, floral notes like lavender, plum skin, and cedar wood, and then back to berries. This is a serious wine that deserves attention.

Dark garnet in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes of violets, spices, orange peel, herbs, some mint, leather, minerals & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium-full bodied with very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & plums with minerals, herbs & some spices. Lingering finish. Only had time for a 45 minute decant then back in bottle, which wasn't nearly enough. Very tight initially, opened a bit during dinner.

Showing its age, but still wonderfully rich and savory, if not a little over-oxidized. Balanced out over the course of the meal. Enjoyed with Wood Ranch barbecue the night before Thanksgiving. Don't judge.

A private tasting hosted by Honest Grapes (Durrants Hotel, London) : On first taste, this was massively volcanic, and I thought it might even be an Aglianico. Softened significantly over time. A bit dense and heavy. £68/btl

Last minute purchase to enjoy at a local "bring your own" Italian restaurant. Full bodied with flavors of dark berries. Enjoyed with a 2006 Casanova di Neri(94 points) that outclassed the young Valdicava.

The nose started opening up after 45 mins in the glass. It had dark berries, cassis, tobacco, cedar wood and dried prunes. The palate was a bit ripe. Its a full bodied wine with a lot of tannins due to its youth. The mid palate had loads of big dark berries, asian spices and dried prunes. In 3-4 years, the wine should be entering its drinking window.

Deep color. Difficult to assess on the nose, showing closed aromas of dark berries, tobacco, cedar, and flowers. This is full bodied on the palate, with excellent concentration and decent finesse. The medium plus length finish shows big but fairly refined tannins.

{Vin Italy, 2014} Brick red color with fading continuously to the watery rim. The nose is true to the vintage - open, giving, warm and slightly ripe, with highlights of balsam, cedar and scorched earth. The entry is fresh, but the tannins are hard as nails, and quickly flank the acids and fruit. The body has yet to integrate all of the wood; better in 3-4 years. 14,0% abv. https://italianwine.blog/
