Color is good, plenty of structure, some minerality and a pleasing caramel retronasal finish. But the midpalate seems to have lost most of whatever fruit once carried it. This still has some merit, but I’d be very reluctant to risk holding onto it in the hope for anything more, though it would not shock me if there is something still to be revealed. Doubtful but not shocking.

Good, solid Bordeaux blend. Nicely integrated with fine grained tannins on the finish.

Good but not great. Fruit and round tannins are well integrated, with a long but rather one dimensional finish.

Tar minerality on front. Nice juiciness and tannins mid palate. Red plums on finish.

Rich, full-bodied red that is at or near its peak. Decanted for an hour and enjoyed with Easter dinner. It has plenty of structure and is well integrated. While it seems to be in such a good place now, I think it will continue to drink very well for the next 2-3 years.

Intense, dark berry fruit. Holding up very well. Slightly hot because of high alcohol. This may be a reason to drink relatively soon.

I think I prefer this wine better younger. Seems to have lost most fruit but still some tannins and acidity. Maybe this is an off year for aging?

Not decanted, but did improve in the bottle over the course of 2-3 hours. A little hot, but nice ripe red and black fruit backbone. Would definitely recommend decanting as this was at it's best at the very end of the evening.

Dark intense and aromatic, lots of black cherry and similar dark fruit, medium finish, just a touch acidic.

Decanted 1 hour. Much per previous notes. Was very good with braised short ribs, pleased the crowd and complemented the meal. Definitely best with food.

Minimal decanting. Not the best bottle of Chalk Hill I've had.

Decanted 45 minutes. Served with Pan fried filet mignon, with a porcini crust and a light Madeira shallot/mushroom deglazing sauce, home fries, greens. Rich red in glass. A bit closed nose, that opened over course of dinner, cherry, dark cherry, bit of blackberry, red fruit, earth. Dense palate with much the same, and fairly intense notes of both tannin and sweetness--both were more prominent after finishing the meal (was great with the beef) and then enjoying the remaining 1/3 bottle. …

Decanted for one hour. Had in a flight with an '08 Bugay Empress cab and Caymus 40th anniversary. This was a surprise as it turned out to be the WOTN. This was probably the case as it was the most balanced in fruit, tannin and acidity. A great accompaniment to slow cooker barbeque baby back ribs and lobster mac 'n cheese. Jammy dark fruits with a nice balance of secondary and tertiary notes. A very easy drinker.

Pretty good, but perhaps not as good as some earlier vintages. That having been said, I will always keep the Chalk Hill Estate Red stocked in our cellar because it's a great mid-price go to heartier red.
