Meulenhof, Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese, Mosel

Albany excess; 11/14/2025-11/15/2025 (Châteauneuf-du-Salil, Albany) : Auslese my ass. This tastes like a Beerenauslese at least, and there's a high toned, almost gingery/horseradish-y spicy aspect to the nose that makes me wonder if there's some Eiswein in this. But this is freaking awesome. Packed with ripe tropical fruits, spice, honey, and an array of other high toned floral and spicy accents, and the whole package comes together so elegantly despite its intense sweetness. There's bright acidity here, a lovely freshness …

So much for keeping my hands off and letting this age. This was fantastic with the fruit still very rich and youthful, drizzled with more exotic honeyed and spicy notes, though the botrytis was much more prominent here than in my last bottle. Still absolutely delicious with fantastic balance and a great post-dinner Auslese.

Another winner from Meulenhof. Packed with bright, ripe fruit, ranging from more classic Mosel apple and citrus to more flamboyant peach and melon notes, and accented by layers of florality, honey, and the start of developing creaminess. It's certainly quite sweet but it's very well balanced with good acidity beneath all the sweetness, and impressive length. Still young enough that I'll try to hold off on opening my other bottles.
