Drank the 2nd of the 2 bottles I had in my cellar .... another beautiful experience. A distinctive bouquet with sour cherry notes. On the palate a flinty medium bodied Nebbiolo with some sour cherry and forrest fruits. Good structure and tannins still evident.

This wine was left in my cellar far too long. The fact that at 19 years it was still quite drinkable is testament to the winemaker. The wine needed a bit of time to open up as it started with a slight bitterness in the after palate. The Nebbiolo skeleton was evident and what it lacked was more “brightness” from fruit that the years of ageing had stripped away. It reminded me of two great visits I had to this …

Medium garnet to tawny colour. Nose: Blackberries, black cherries, cigar box, hint of tar. With time come black olives, old leather, a little earthiness, hints of tarragon and rosemary. (89p) Taste: Lovely sweet & sour / sweet & bitter fruitiness, dark cherries, plums, wild strawberry lemonade/syrup, black pepper. Wonderful acidity. Mature and very drinkable. Great food wine. (92p) Total score 90 points. I think it will keep and stay at this level for at least another 2-4 years. Kept very …

Decanted 1 hour. Brick color. Classic Nebbiolo aromas, the dominating smell of wood upon opening blew away in the decanter (luckily). Available tannins and good acidity. The fruit is still present and you feel an earthy tone. Clearly some bottle variation since my last bottle was over the top and heading downhill. This bottle was still fresh and quite enjoyable. Wonderful to risotto made with mushrooms.

Consistent with earlier note. Drinking perfectly at the moment. Full-bodied and well balanced. Quite big for a Gattinara, but still keeping its finese. Yeah!

Clean, medium(+) intensity, fully developed with aromas of cherries (red), tobacco, anis and noble wood, mushrooms and there is a floral scent that I can't categorize. The wine smells wonderful. Palate: Red cherries (slightly sour), tobacco, mushrooms. At its peak with medium+ acidity, medium tannins, body and intensity, medium+ length. This bottle was significantly better than the two last ones I've had

Mature with cherry and dark berry fruit, rose, leather and tar aromas. Perhaps just a touch of VA on the nose as well, but not enough to be distracting but merely another dimension. Medium-plus bodied with mostly integrated tannins leaving a velvety texture with good acidity. Good length. Still held up the next day, so while I don't think this will improve with more time, I do believe it should be able to hold a few more years.

Decanted 1 hour. App: Clear, bright brick red. Aroma: balsamico, dried fruits, leather and after some while a hint of tobacco. Clearly a very mature wine and the tannins are melted down. A bit dry on the finish. Medium finish. The fruit is nearly gone. Had it with wood grouse, red wine sauce, mashed potatoes and mushrooms. This combination was good. The wine totally collapsed after 4 hours. No need to decant in the future. I tend to agree with …

Decanted for an hour. Nice developed aromas of dry red fruit and dark berries, earth, mushroom and leather. Well balanced acidity and mature tannins. Good length. Served with duck breast and a mix of mashed potatoes/sweet potatoes, mushrooms and garlic in redwine syrup. Very good match.

Near the end of it's life, entirely tertiary aromas now and has developed rapidly since my first bottle in 2009. Still enjoyable, but needs food and should be opened soon because it is heading downhill.

Still a good wine, but definately not getting any better. I would say it has lost some fruit and punch since I last drank it. Not as complex as it was.

This wine needed about an hour in the decanter to really start showing. Translucent garnet in the glass with some bricking on edges. On the nose, this wine is like walking through a rose garden: spicy rose petals and forest floor with hints of strawberry and nebbiolo tar. Similar notes on the palate with a mix of sour cherry and black tea on a medium long to long finish. Medium-bodied with a well integrated structure of finely textured, high tannin …

A fantastic gattinara which smells cherries, leather, anis and a hint of flowers (roses?). Great body, smooth but still with tannins that are alive. Iwould say this vintage is great from now and another 4-5 years. The 2004 which I also tasted a month ago will still improve.

Again a fine bottle of this wine. Mature nebbiolo, though not the most powerful.

A traditonal wine with orange, garnet color, medium body and excellent acidity. The nose was a little tight but opened up after 40-45 mins without decanting. With all of the usual old world minerality and earth notes of truffle, mushrooms, graphite and wet leather dominating the nose. There are undertones of berries and figs. There''s' no oakiness of a modernist. This is a fabulous food wine which we paired with milk-fed young pork.
