Maybe a bit early to drink, but solid flavors of raisin and plum, and a smooth finish. Only drawback was a lot of sediment in the bottom of the bottle.

Feels much sweeter than 2019 LBV. Dry fruits with savoury notes. Good quality but not my type.

Fruit driven value porto. Blackberry, blueberry and cherry compote with gun powder and minerality with nice tannic structure.

This bottling, introduced in 2010, is step up from the Quinta do Noval Fine Ruby. A blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão and Sousão, a part of which coming from the Noval vineyards, the remainder coming from A-rated vineyards in Douro. A part of the wine is vinified with foot-treading in the traditional lagares , the remainder in stainless steel vats with pump-overs. The wine is blended from multiple vintages that have been aged in stainless …

Purchased for $16. Well, the bottle is Black and so is the wine. Dark ruby, almost opaque in color. At first impression, this was overly sweet. After about 20mins, this really came into itself. And man, am I glad I didn't judge the book by it's cover. Delicious notes of black fruits, boysenberry, blackberry and plum. Sweet vanilla and spice with hints of violet or lavender. Incredibly long finish. This is remarkable for $16. Might be the best "ruby reserve" …

It's been 8 years since I opened a bottle of this. My Yellowtail drinking friends loved it. I thought it was ok. Sorry, can't find my notes. The good thing is that this improved since my last bottle.

Drank over several days, the last paired with beef and vegetable stew. Excellent pairing! Very good acid and structure. Rock solid, pun intended.

BTG at Fleming’s in Austin with dessert. Displays a medium ruby color, seems to be positioned between a ruby port and a NV LBV. Good flavors but not terribly complex nor interesting. Pretty basic.

Bought this to pair with a chocolate dessert since this is supposed to be made for that combination. Didn’t work very well. Was very disappointed. Alcoholic, lacking complexity. Never again for me.

First port that I really liked. This is a Ruby port. Very dark, rich, smooth, with a long, soft finish. Can have quite a bit of sediment. Compared to the Kopke Tawny which is also excellent, it is similar but a little fruitier than the Kopke. See notes on the Kopke Tawny and Ruby ports which are very similar. Available at Market District in Indy.

Bottle is open for seven days (and was kept in the fridge). Dark as ink, smells of strawberry, a little bit of blackberry and a little bit of eucalyptus, medium body, not very sweet, not hot/spirituous, in the mouth dried strawberry and blackberry, in the aftertaste dried strawberry, blackberry and acidity, good length (30 sec), good reserve ruby.

If I remember right, this was a port designed for people who don't know or love port, and while that's not me (I'm a huge fan), this was a very nice QPR, and while the body is a little thin, it's (as designed) very easy-drinking, well-made and it was well worth the pour.

Deep ruby red colour. Medium nose with blackberry, dark plum, vanilla and hints of black pepper, mint and alcohol. Medium (+) taste of dark plum, blackberry, vanilla and mint. Medium and sweet finish. Medium (+) acidity. Medium tannins. Full body. A good entry level ruby port. Goes well with cheese, chocolate and chocolate based desserts.

spicy dark cherry nose fresh and meaty, not too sweet with juicy fruit Bit more expensive that a normal ruby reserve. It's not a bad wine but sure it's worth the extra.

Clear deep ruby; clean medium plus nose of cassis, blackberry jam, toast, vanilla and fresh (not dried) dark brambly fruit; medium sweet; high acidity; medium tannins; high alcohol; medium plus body; medium plus flavor intensity; pfn with addition of raisin; medium finish; very good quality; drink now - not particularly complex or interesting; drank with cheese and dessert courses

Very simple but very drinkable. Candied plums, and lots of wood. Really good for what it is. I can see why people make cocktails with this. Would definitely buy more!

Tasty in a basic sense, with dried dark fruit and some older flavors. But overall, dull and uninspiring.

A modernity, although excisting some years; quite good and serious, not too sweet, some cocoa and a decent aftertaste.

2017 Friends & Family; 9/20/2017-9/23/2017 (Portugal) : Dark ruby in color. Dark berries and cherry on the nose. Strawberry, cassis, and boysenberry on the palate with some subtle hints of licorice. Balanced tannins on the long finish.

Drank this along with an 2009 Taylor Fladgate LBV (WS #16 Top 100 of 2015), and a 1995 Fonseca Guimaraens for a family graduation celebration, so this may not have been a fair match-up. That said, part of the reason I matched the three was to do a "new Port vs old Port" tasting, and by that metric, the Noval Black actually stands up well. It will never fool anyone into thinking it is a vintage port, but it is …

A bit harsh on the pop 'n' pour but settled down after a half hour. Dark plum, black raspberry, and black cherry with a little chocolate. A touch of tannin and the normal alcohol heat of port on the finish, but nothing to complain about for under $20. Not sickening sweet either, this is a very good bottle for the money. If it gets better the next 2 or 3 days like port usually does after opening, this might be …

This deep ruby Port, an inexpensive (but not illegitimate) offspring of Quinta do Noval, can hold its own with Noval's more revered siblings. Being "non-vintage," I can only find a single identifying marker on this bottle (that being "767995"). A core of smoky black cherry, dark chocolate, fig and plum is supported by surprisingly good acidity and big supple tannins. Listed as 19.5%, the wine's alcohol is superbly integrated, allowing the sweet ripe fruit to shine from start to finish. …
