Garnet purple. Dark fruit with spice. Palate is medium fruit with earthy spice. Good acid fine tannins. Try a 2 hour decanting next time.

Over 2 1/2 years since my last bottle, and it feels like this has improved in the interim. There's still the touch of astringency I tasted back then, but I think it's even less intrusive. Subdued woodsy nose, rich dark fruit. A wonderful bargain. Paired well with chicken in a somewhat spicy borracho-style sauce.

Amazing QPR at $10. Pure, balanced, dark Mencia fruit with nice aromatics. Finishes with powerful and dusty tannins. Begs for red meat. Wish I had more.

A dark-purple Mencia with long legs and nice fruit smells in the glass and well-balance taste that lingers well. We pared it with a pasta dish after a cold soup of green grapes, lima beans, and fresh garlic.

Subtle nose of cherry sandalwood. Cedar, spice, roast beef palate, with hints of cherry. Good acidity, but astringent and not showing a lot of fruit. Should be fine in a couple of years.

Appearance: Dark ruby, clear, no sediment. Nose: Black cherry primary, with substantial dark chocolate. hint of almond. Taste: Black cherry, hints of oak, bitter orange zest. Attack: Soft mouth feel and fruit forward on attack. Remains soft through mid palate, but with some balancing tannin and acid. Medium long finish. Window: Now-2017. Overall: Not overly complex, but a worthy replacement for a mid-level Cal cab/merlot. Excellent QPR at $10.50!!! Would definitely stock up at this price point.

Decanted and drank right away with Chinese food, shrimp with lobster sauce and boneless ribs with fried rice. A little tight at first but opened up quite nicely. I usually find it difficult to find a wine that pairs well with Chinese but this did the trick. Good fruit with nice tannins and balanced acidity. A solid 89-90 and at a great price.

I admittedly don't have much experience with the Mencia varietal. The only other experience is with Bodega del Abad Bierzo Carracedo, which I liked and has the flavor profile you'd expect from just about any red (in general). This Ramon Valle at open has a beautiful clear garnet hue, but some offensive aromas more like the tank car type wine sold as house at chain restaurants in the U.S. Maybe like wet cardboard pulled from a dumpster? Flavors where muted …

Decanted, did not run through the Vinturi. A little astringent, but not unpleasantly so. Paired well with a panini-style sandwich of leftover roast pork. Will probably let the rest of my bottles of this hang a while.

Ruby, slightly opaque. No signs of age. Nice intriguing nose of rose and tar. Frankly the nose made me think of Barolo. Nice structure. Cherry and red berries join on palate. Slight green pepper element that I often associate with cheaper cabs emerges to blend with the fruit. Medium acidity leads to a medium mineral finish. Overall a very strong QPR. Agree with the other comments. Wish I had more. For some reason the first bottle did not rock me …

Agree w/previous tasting note...this is a bit tannic and tight still. Probably needs at least 1 more year, if not 2 for everything to come in balance. Tasted slightly more complex than a young, tight Merlot. Very nice though. Nice bright red cherry tones. Very nice QPR.
