Renieri's 2023 Rosso was fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel. Medium-to-deep red/garnet in color, it serves up aromas and flavors of black raspberries, dried cranberries, allspice, violets, white pepper and dry earth. Medium-bodied, fresh, seamlessly alcoholic (14.5%) and with lively acids, it stays solid on the midpalate and concludes with a lengthy, lifted finish. The cork came out almost without any wine color, which doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but I expected a little more depth in color out of a Sangiovese. The nose is muted, dusty (in a good way) and hiding a little bit. On the palate, nice fruit but pretty one-dimensional.

What a delightfully deep wine, a playground on the tongue! Deep, rich, but not heavy. Every sip is different with a new berry or fruit coming forward. Vanilla, red berry, strawberry, cherry, delish.

In the 11 months since the prior bottle, the barnyard funk has dissipated. Oddly that did not change my overall impression of the bottle. Softer floral presentation now with spiced red cherry flavors. Some blueberry in the background.

Popped and poured. Smooth, deep purple color. Warm-to-hot nose of dried currants, violets, oak, and wet earth. Unexpectedly tart and bright on the palate, notes of sour cherries, some caramel, anise, and riper berry notes emerged after an hour. Light, fine tannins, short finish. Pleasant enough, nothing I'll be seeking out again.
