Glenmorangie, Highland Single Malt Extremely Rare 18YO, Highlands

A painless whiskey with no personality. Easy drinking, but gains gentle flavours at the expense of any depth. Mildly disappointing for highland lovers, and a non-starter for peat pursuers. A great introductory whisky for newcomers (affordable price, and no assault on the senses).

More assertive than the basic 10 year, nice dollop of cherry cough drop. The extra 3% shows nicely and this grabs your attention more than the 10 but not sure it’s actually better, certainly not as perfectly balanced.

Nose: Ruby port! Raisin, candy apple, sweet corn, maraschino cherry. Palate: Wood, orange, rather hot. Didn't feel it lived up to the nose. Maybe I'll come back to this someday, but this bottle was not doing it for me.

Glenmorangie Sample Tasting (Chicago, Illinois, USA) : An eye-catching pale rose color. This has a remarkably fruity nose of ripe peach and strawberry jam, with a yeasty and buttery nuance of hot white toast. Medium-dark orange-gold color. There is, indeed, a hint of peat on the rich, dark nose that is otherwise filled with aromas of toffee, butterscotch, grilled meat, and firewood; this is balanced by countervailing topnotes of lemon salt, buttered white toast, vanilla milkshake, macerated cherries, and banana. Interesting. I can see the port influence. Like it head and shoulders above the standard Glenmorangie.

46% makes this one too alcoholic to me, needing a splash of water or some breathing time. Besides that, it's a really good whisky, showing some complexity with rich aromas of mint chocolate, panettone, orange zest, walnuts and subtle ginger. Nice body with a long finish.

With Darryl. Great light copper colour. Ripe fruit, peach, orange, plum and spices on the nose, joined by chocolate, some cigar tobacco and a hint of mint after some aeration. On the palate, red wine-like fruit flavours and some sweetness on the initial attack, joined by chocolate and nuts, but then the heat from the burning alcohol mostly covers the flavours of this medium-bodied and medium-complex whisky. Not a fan. Body 5/10, Smoke 1/10, Sweetness 4/10.

Since the traditional sherry cask is hard to find up here in Canada, this has become favorite Glenmorangie. Pretty much a tie with Nectar D'Or, but cheaper. Good after dinner dram, since it is on the sweet side. Good body, 46%, subtle but fine port nuances.. what's not to like?

Smell is great. I could sniff this for hours. One of the pleasantries of drinking whiskey :-). Very good quality for the price. 12Y of aging...very good. I drink this straight up. Glenmorangie is sooooo smooth I don't need to dilute.

Damn good, but this is a hair less successful than the Nectar d'Or. Nice heatheriness on the nose, a little honey, and a certain red fruit quality hidden in there from it's port casks. Nicely done, and very smooth. Again, no sweetness transferred from the cask, just the flavor, which is nice.

Sweet notes of ruby port on the nose, cheap cherry liqueur, fresh oak, and ethyl alcohol; more fresh, rustic oak on the palate, and notes of ruby port on the midpalate, through the finish; the new (American-like) oak notes continue into the finish, with hints of bitter cherry liqueur. A sample bottle of a typically elegant Glenmorangie single malt whisky. The port flavors don't overwhelm the malt. May have to buy a full bottle!

[46% Bourbon + Ruby Port casks] Tawny golden orange in the glass, with an espressive nose of warm chocolate, toasted nuts (hazelnut) and a hint of burnt orange. Forward toasty notes of vanilla oak, creamy coconut, butterscotch, but with a slightly bitter edge of burnt orange and marmalade zest. Watering rounds off the aroma, showing some shaved wood and dark chocolate shavings. Grassy, hay-ey finish. Minty spices right at the end. Perfect with dark chocolate.

Old amber color. Nose of caramel and egg liqueur, with young calvados in the background. Smooth, sweet and hot taste, which fill the whole mouth. Oily texture, long finnish. More on the light side of style. Would recommend to anybody, who believes he doesn't like whisky.

a little too hot for a highland scotch of this caliber. slight hints of caramel on the nose, with a rustic but hot palette.

Medium amber in color although seems to throw off a faint pinkish hue. This specimen is rested in Port cask. A little paint and herb on the nose with sweet booze. Pretty basic. Light to medium mouthfeel, slightly oily. Not much going on at all just boozy caramel and spice with a touch of adulterated oak. Short finish.
