Fielding Hills Merlot Estate Riverbend Vineyard

Really solid merlot. Still seems to have lots of life left too.

Cassis, loam, plum, earth, blackberry, a little graphite, smoke, wet leaves, and some wood on the nose. Blackberry, black cherry, red cherry, cocoa powder, raspberry, spice, earth, and some vanilla on the palate. Nicely balanced acidity, integrated smooth tannins, long-ish finish. Terrific mouthfeel, just round and centered on the mid-palate. Overall, this was a great wine. It was quite fruit-forward, but had lots of earthy complexity. A very tasty Merlot that had a good amount of fruit and was very low in acidity.

Nose of caramel, pepper and blackberry; mouthfeel from heaven; good, round flavors of cassis, bell pepper and sweet pie-cherry, with a good acid backbone. The finish goes on and on. It's hard to imagine a fruit-forward merlot that could be better. More in the cellar, too!
