medium red color. medium legs. Nose has a nice black pepper notes with cherries. Mouth is fruit forward with less pepper. tannin are silky. lighter bodied than flavors imply. Not a lot of sediment kicked at all. high potential

Peppery. I really don’t get anything else. To the light side of medium bodied. Average finish. Pleasant and good with food but nothing special for me.

Great. Peppery. High toned. Light body. Think light bodied N. Rhone.

Here is the family who saved this grape from extinction threatened by phylloxera. Wine is aged for 14-18 months in FR oak snd 30-36 months in bottle and released once it reaches its peak. Medium ruby colour. Med intensity of blackberries, plums, pepper, cherries, hint of lavender and balsamic. Medium body, fresh and bright with lean texture, peppery and fruity flavours along mild tannins and mid length finish.

Lunch with Jazz (67 Pall Mall, London) : We asked the somm for a recommendation that was stylistically similar to the Planetes de Nin 2018 we’d had with he food. This had an engaging and enticing nose, a touch more initial funk or earthiness, charming fruit (strawberries, sweet cherry, red/black berries more generally), herbs. Thicker in texture than I was expecting but fulfilled the brief given to the somm and was very enjoyable without food.

Very very peppery. Decent food wine but not to be had by itself

I love the whole story here about rescuing the grape from oblivion. But I didn’t get the story on the palete. Too lacking in depth and structure for me. Rather one dimensional. Fruit and spice as others have commented. Best poured and drink soon after. Just tasted bottle 2 after a few months more. Much improved. I can’t say why. Still not the fullest body but pleasant red cherry aromas and red and black fruit on the palate. With the …

Nimble, fresh, clean. Tart fruit, herbs, so much black pepper. A good example of Skippy but not so sure about the QPR. (Not positive it is better than others at half the price.)

A pristine library release bottle, with a perfect fill. Mature, perhaps a bit past peak but I lack the familiarity with the varietal to say for sure. Subdued cherries, a touch drying, with some mushroom, mint and lanolin notes. Somewhat rustic in style.

100% Schioppettino, from the archetypal producer in the prime Cialla subzone. Med ruby. Intense tart red cherry, black plum, purple flowers, black pepper, medicinal herbs, a touch of earth and spice. Developing. 14-18 mos in large neutral casks and 30-36 more in bottle before release. Dry, with med (+) acidity, med tannins and med alcohol (12.5%). Very well-balanced wine, with med (+) body, flavor intensity and length and a pleasant, slightly savory finish. Drinking well now and likely to improve …

Ronchi di Cialla Schioppettino di Cialla Vertical (Shanghai) : Only some nutty, oaky, mushroom, berry jam flavours remain. The structure is loose and fragile. Tannin is fading and acidity dominated. Passed peak

Ronchi di Cialla Schioppettino di Cialla Vertical (Shanghai) : Magnum. Much deeper in colour compare to the new vintage. The first nose of wild flower, wild juicy red berry. Earthy, gamy, ripe berry and baked sesame on the mid-palate. Medium tannin, linear acidity is penetrating, even aggressive. Drink now, but development would still go on.

A remarkably well preserved 26-year-old, 100% Schioppettino. Med garnet with a tawny rim. Clean, with dried red cherry, dried plum, leather, earth, smoke. The nose is developed. Aged in French oak barriques for 14-18 mos. and then in bottles for 30-36 mos. Dry, with med (+) acidity, med, polished tannins and med alcohol (12.5%). Very well balanced and harmonious, with med (+) to high flavor intensity and length, with a pleasant, slightly bitter herbl and balsamic finish. Drink now.

Colore rubino intenso.

Light color. Nose has a lot of earthy notes, but light red fruit comes in as well. Light on the palate but brings nice soft secondaries of berry, mild smoky and earth flavors and a mild acidity. Almost feels like drinking an older Bordeaux. Not a wine I'm familiar with (neither the schioppettino grape nor the producer); had at a restaurant. But fun to drink.

My first Schioppetttino. Like a Pineau d'Aunis and a Nebbiolo had a child. Peppery, barnyardy, not heavy; fresh and food friendly. Really nice and quite a lovely surprise how fresh it is 10 years out! Glad Rochi di Cialla saved his variety.

When I first opened this I thought I might be disappointed. All it took was about an hour with the cork out and then Buon Appetito! This is very juicy and has the wonderful and tell-tale pepper flavor. This might become my new favorite wine.

Even more funk going on in this wine, which is good, although the fruit seems a little dry now, in my view a bit past its best

Purple with a translucent rim. A little earthy on the nose with cherry fruits, fine tannin, clean tasting fruits of cherry and red plums
