Ok this wine has moved on to the next stage. Gone is the acidic nerve of a young GG (or rather EG). Now I'm getting banana peel (pleasantly so), marsipan, almonds, starting to get faint petrol aromas too. Also, slightly sweeter than your average dry GG/EG. Although this still isn't the pinnacle of elegance, I thought it was much better than the corresponding 2006, which I found too ripe, clumsy and alcoholic. Still, this is fairly oily, unctuous, big, bold and brawny. But it's also quite nervous and etheral and the fruit is fresh and succulent: peaches, apricot, red apples and cantalope. Spicy lemony acidity and wonderful minerality add interest and depth. Great wine.

Intense but lively yellow colour; the complex nose is mature but fresh, waxy and spicy, ripe citrus and a hint of peach, almost saline minerality, earth and some herbs, floral freshness good depth; the palate is quite full and rich, but the heft (13.5% ABV) is balanced by juicy and refreshing acidity and the coolness of its mineral core, light flavours; the acidity carries the bittersweet finish to a very good length. Fully mature, drink now - 2017+.
