A quality MV Shiraz. Nice fruit and texture. Very smooth.

Intense black colour with a thin dirty crimson hue. Aroma of forest floor, sawdust, blackberry, nougart. Freshens up surprising quick. Plum, sour cherry, clove, dark chocolate, dried herbs. Tannin is quite strong and grippy, takes over the fruit a fair bit. Full of character, balanced acidity, a variety of flavours. It probably required more airing then my lack of patience provided. Actually still impressed by how nice it is given it age.

Cork, 14.5% alc. A much more vibrant deep red/black hue than the 98 Mountain Blue consumed recently. The wine is meaty and smoky, along with vanilla, blackberry, chocolate coated raisins, and coffee. It has always lacked the intensity of flavour and length expected of a $50+ wine that it used to be in prior vintages. Perhaps that’s why this vintage sold for $20 on release. Showing better on Day 3, with less meaty reduction and a more vibrant fruit profile. …

A wonderful wine. Full bodied, aromatic long on the palate. I was pleasantly surprised how well it aged.

Inky colour, almost black. Musky earthy aroma with a slight alcohol undertone. Medium to full body. Reasonably smooth taste with long finish. Fruit is present, tannin exist but not overpowering at all. Dark fruit and cassis with chocolate. Given the colour and aroma I expected it to be a lot dryer than it was. Still has a couple of years left.

Thoroughly delightful Shiraz, in every way fit for a king. Tasting notes similar to the bottle I opened 14 months ago.

Very nice with tart blueberry and blackberry and damp earth notes. Integrated and sleek. I was scared because the first taste was off but a short amount of air time helped blow that away.

It's been a year since my first bottle of this Balmoral. What a difference a year makes. Now outstanding McLaren Vale qualities. Deepest ruby in the glass, with a powerful body and strong legs. Intoxicating aromas of violets and blackberries on the nose. Rich, ripe boysenberries, blueberries and lingonberries, plus vanilla oak, on the palate. The finish lingers with notes of cinnamon and anise.

I found this Syrah to be smooth, well-balanced in its fruit and earth but lacking in any real complexity or depth. Still, it paired well with pepperoni pizza, chicken milanese, and roasted vegetables.

Dark inky purple color, medium-full bodied, ripe raisin flavored smokey blueberry, sweet black currant, tobacco and earthy leather on the firm tannin laced black cherry finish.

Dallas 2nd Wednesday Group - Valentine Day Special (Urbano Cafe, Dallas, Texas) : WIML89 Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of talc, currants and a hint of blueberry. Flavors of Bing cherries, berries and a bit of plum. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium to full bodied. Drink over the next 3-5 years.

I give this wine a Wow. It had depth and a lot of meatiness. The nose was full of leather, tobacco and dark fruit. Nice long finish. We matched this against a 2008 Turley Zin and this clearly was much more inviting and complex. Very nice wine.

Very deep color, aromas lept out of the decanter. No signs of being 8 years old. Blueberry, smoked meats and a very balanced chocolate note.

Could be past peak, but I am no expert. Fruit seemed buried by other aromas of - barnyard? Acids still deliver nice mouthwatering effect. Finish better than aroma. If Good is 80-84, then 84 it is.

Genka Wine Fair : (tasting in gen.ka wine fair) A deep purple color with bright hues, this wine is still fresh. Quite good in the nose with fruits and sweet spices. The tannins are soft with not much acidity. This a quite pleasant wine and certainly requires food. (a little concern on the price, 45€)

A great syrah from one of our favorite producers. Doesn't beat the 2000, but still shows very nicely now with excellent concentrated fruit and structure that indicates another 5 to 10 years for this wine. May not have hit its peak yet, but it very drinkable now.

Dark purple, rich and velvety with lots of chocolate. A little diisjointed and hot on night 1 but much better and more pleasing to non-regular wine drinkers

Decanted for two hours. Inky dark color. Rather vibrant tannins, nice fruit but a bit one-dimensional. Surprisingly short finish. Label contains no information about the level of alcohol which is probably quite high and not unnoticeable in the taste. Disappointing effort for the relatively high price.
