A very dark garnet body. Lots of American oak in this wine, along with blackberry, sweet cassis, raspberry, earthiness and spice. Rich and fairly and viscous fruit in the mouth. Good acid and structure. A long, soft and berry-like finish.

It took a while for this to open up. It has been sitting upright on a retailers shelf for quite some time, and may be a little long in the tooth. The first impression is sharp spicy earth. Some serious swirling brings out the type of fruit we expect from ripe Australian wines. It fades fast, but gives us an indication of the potential this wine had. The color is super inky dark. It has a screw cap, but it …

Had w/dinner over 2 nights. Initially PnP w/Vinturi, but was much better into 2nd day. Deep crimson color. Nice bouquet of ripe dark fruit, black bepper & woodsy spice, earthy aromas w/hint of herb, tobacco & chocolate. Precise cherry & dark berry flavors w/spice & herbs w/o being a fruit-bomb. This has evolved nicely w/subtle tannins, medium+ acidity, medium-bodied & nice lingering finish. Very good.

Dark berry and spice nose. On the palate nice dark fruit and cedar. Dark fruits dominants the finish with some spice and maybe pepper. Nice and long.

Dark deep brick red, dusty red rim. Quite closed nose of cloves and pepper spices, with some brambly prunish dark fruit. Stylish seemless oak woven into a savoury slippery palate with medium length.

A spice nose of dark fruit, dark black in color. Black cherry, spice, cedar, smooth full bodied GMS.

Murky maroon to purple color. Very sweet nose, artificial grape flavor, with orange zest, slate, and black licorice. Grapey on the palate as well, lots of Grenache character, purple fruits, game, wood spice, and earthy potting soil nuances. Mourvedre shows up on late palate with fresh herbs and black tea-like tannins. Slightly disjointed: the acidity is too low, and the tannins too prominent.

Paired with marinated sirloins after running through the Vinturi and a 1 hour decant. A bit disappointing as this wine was way out of balance. I also think I am not a Grenache fan - which dominated this bottle. Surprisingly, round 2 was not too bad after 6 days in the fridge. Perhaps the air helped. Would not purchase again.

Beautiful garnet light color, nice long legs which clinged seductively on the glass with full body on the pallete, blackcherry, spice, tobacco and oak on the nose. Although it is a GSM, the shiraz dominated. Nice soft acidity and tannins with a sweet peppery finish. My first GSM and I would definitely purchase again.

I had Stonehorse's Shiraz a few weeks ago and found it a tad too sweet but quite liked it, very smooth and well made. This one is even better, and less sweet which I find just right, and made in a very similar style, very Australian, for a well made entry level wine, little or no tanning, high alcohol, massive fruit, long finish, excellent QPR.

Straight from bottle. Deep red to purple. Strong Cassis on the nose matched in the palate. Reasonable finish turning smokey and lingering. Not too well structured, no tannins, but will probably endure, as other Stonehorse varieties, for several years as a wine of value.

A medium-dark ruby in the glass, this youthful wine was double-decanted for 20 minutes before being served with spicy BBQ pork spareribs. (parenthetical note: if it seems like we eat a lot of pork and pasta/marinara/Italian sausage, it's because we do!) Difficult to pin down nose, but I can appreciate dark cherry, cranberry relish, red currant, a hint of tobacco, spices, oak and alcohol (15.5%). The palate is much the same, except it is very full, expansive, savory, and with …

this is a great bottle of wine for $20. smokey and buttery on the palate, unmistakably australian, yet not brooding and aggressive like a mollydooker or pillar box. there's a bit of restraint in this wine that really helps it. the tannins don't tell me this is something to hold long term, but i'm still figuring out how to identify ageability in a wine, so.... the 15.5% alcohol in this wine was nicely integrated.

Australia+ (Hollywood Wine & Espresso, Portland OR) : VERY nice Grenache-Shiraz-Mourvedre blend! Incredibly smooth, great fruit, leather, tar, pepper flavors swim around the mouth. Finish of black fruit and pepper. Excellent/Outstanding - 90 points.

Binny's Shiraz Tasting (St. Charles, Illinois) : I liked this better than the 2005 Shiraz Stonehorse. It had a better balance. Medium to full bodied. Plenty of red and black fruit. 89-90 points.

Have not had of the Kaesler stable before. Ruby red, curranty berry nose, lingering coffee, spice, tart cherry and chocolate sweetness. It's all about ripeness and warmth and immediacy. I ain't complaining about that.
