San Guglielmo Brunello di Montalcino

Tasted at home this time. Very much in line with the tasting at the winery. This bottle seemed to have the slightest hint of cork on the nose, but this sometimes completely disappeared and was noticeable at all on the palate. Again the freshness was remarkable. Juicy and elegant continuing until the long finish slowly fades. And then you want more!

What a great new Brunello discovery! Where many Brunelli are suffering from over-ripe vintages, this wine is showing that typical refinement and elegance that I love so much about a classic Brunello. Now, 2016 is a typical 'fresh' vintage with a potential long-haul character. And this wine definitely shows that. Where several other wineries that I have been following over the past 20-25 years are often showing a lot more ripeness of fruit. This is not necessarily a bad thing. …

PnP enjoyed over two hours; a glass on day two was as good if not slightly better. Bright red fruits, very fresh and fine attack. Good mid-palate definition with a firm sense of place and grape. Some accents of tobacco, dust and forest add interest. Transparent, pure with good an avg+ finish. This is still developing and should age well - it may even level-up, eventually. 14,0% abv.
