Still alive! Red fruit, acidic, needed slow decant for 30 min. Present, soft tanins. Not going to improve, so open now.

From magnum D1h Medium dark red, yellow tinged, 5.5 Generous bouquet, deep dark fruits, meaty stuff, forest floor, complex Harmonious palate, lT, hA, mB, dry, tannins fully resolved, the acidity is keeping it alive, balanced and elegant with a long lasting finish. Drink now-onwards This was really a positive surprise total a point now. Old school Chianti in the darker style.

Past its prime. Still a pristine cork. Very closed initially. Red to brown color with an orange hue on the rim. Dried cherry, licorice flavors and aroma. Thin body and a short, slight metallic finish. Probably would have been showing very well 10 years ago.

Shockingly still very much alive and quite enjoyable. Purchased for $10.39 in early 1980’s one of my early buys. Mature brick browning color, but nice dried garrique profile and still nice acid lift to a seemily pretty well balanced wine. Clearly mature, but impressive for the flavors and balance. A very good drink and a shock when I revealed this to a high end group after being blinded.

Decanted to allow it to open a little. The taste developed as it opened and it was very enjoyable to drink. We had it with lasagna and Cesar salad. Flavours so typical of a Chianti Classico reserva. Spicy with a hint of fruit. Probably at the end of cellaring for this vintage.

Bottle #2 absolutely marvelous. We had it from double magnum and the wine is at best shape now. Dried cherries very evident, other black fruits, leather with nice spice behind. Super silky. Absolute pleaser for grilled meat dinner.

Bought five bottles for 8/b when a local "warehouse store" closed its beverage section about 10 years ago; this is #3. Decanted with normal sediment for its age. Medium purple with amber edge; some cherry, some old leather, hint of black tea that follow on the palate, good mouthfeel. I was always concerned about store storage with these bottles--displayed standing up, probably for months, with very little temp control and no humidity control. This was pleasant, but I think a …

Y’all must have had some storage issues. Been in the wine cellar at ~58 degrees and is in great shape. Perfect aged Chianti still showing on all levels. I thought it would be over the hill but was pleasantly surprised and impressed. No formal notes.

Pleasant surprise! Appearance - slight bricking. Medium Ruby/tawny. Clear. No sediment. Nose - getting oxidative notes on nose. My gut was I was headed for something fortified tasting. Nope. Palate - all things considered quite pleasant surprise! Acidity is there, fruit, tannins. Balanced. Fruit is developed, some rasination, medium intensity, fonish is medium, sweetness still there. Fruit was ripe and it is there. Tingle on palate. Alcohol is there. Tasting wood. The wine is still alive. Not sure I would …

tonight a bottle of Ruffino 2001 Chianti came out of my cellar and we used those very juice glasses to guzzle this bottle (it was gone within half-an-hour); this wine might very well have been mildly corked, but in our glassware of choice who could tell.

A bit of bricking. A dusty nose over the top of cherries, plums and leather. The wine was pleasant but a touch unbalanced and some hard edges -- surprising given the age. Has started to go around the bend, but still pleasant.

Decent for its age, good cherry and leather notes with a floral perfume. Some complexity on the nose. Dark amber with browning notes at the rim. This has lost some acidity over the years and as a result comes off a little dull, but still is quite impressive for a 78.

Maybe a little past it's prime. Still a good wine. Light in color with some bricking, this aged wine still has oak and leather with dark cherry on the nose. As the fruit has faded I picked up more alcohol on the nose and palate. On the palate, thin even for Chianti, but the typical cherry with medium tannins and a brief finish. If you have this vintage, drink asap.

Does not show or taste its age. Holding up just fine, still quite acidic, low tannin, black fruit on the nose, red fruits in the mouth. Classic sangiovase still at 9 years old.

Some sediment - decanted carefully. Loads of rim variation, including a brick core surrounded by an orange rim. Intense dried cherry and oregano notes. Some licorice. Quite vibrant still, but fairly receded fruit. Perfect with spicy pizza. Great tannins and acid remain. Would have been more showy in its youth, but lasted quite well.

Past its prime. I missed its window. Not much on the nose or the palate. Very disappointing. It will end up being a cooking wine. Had much higher hopes for this wine. Did a pop and pour then tried it at 24 and 48 hrs after opening without better results.

Transparent dark garnet in color. Light nose on opening: meaty black cherry and faint wood. Echoed on the medium light palate. Firm but forgiving tannins and a dark fruit finish. A solid ChCR at a good place right now. Ruffino is a good producer. Should hold up through 2016, especially if in a larger bottle than my 375ml.

Joe's tasting of four Italian wines from his cellar and dinner. First place. Lovely old wine nose of leather, dust, cassis, plum and fig, more of the same on the palate, most complex and enjoyable of the group by far.

1st tried this 2 years ago and was bitterly disappointed. Delighted to find my instincts were right and it is now much more characterful. Beginning to fade to brick red on the edges already, and a gentle nose of cherries which is (unusually) identical on the palate. I detect very little (if any) oak - quite strange for a riserva - but lots of acidity. Tannins firm but by no means overpowering. How much longer will it last? I suspect …

2007 Ruffini Riserva Ducale Chianti Classico A tannic backbone (unusual for a Chiati) supporting decent quality Chianti fruit. Lasted 4 days with Vacuvin. So this wine has aging potential. Atleast 5 years, possibly 10. Worth cellaring. 91.

Nose is all right with some light red fruit, wood, tobacco and vanilla. On the palate dissapointing. Weak fruit (surprising considering the vintage), to much oak and quite harsh acidity and tannins. Unbalanced. Acceptable, but with so many better wines around there really is no need to seek this one out.
