Having enjoyed older vintages (2004, 2007) as fully mature reds, this was my first of 3 bottles of 2010. Decanted from a light, fine sediment and open for 3 hours before assessment in a group of like tasters. The aroma at all stages was quite muted, although clean and pure enough - we really had to work to get something, but there are hints of herbs, cedar, spice, plums and dark cherries. A bit of garnet on the rim of a deep cherry core. Slow legs. Blackberries, cherries, wet gravel, balsamic, celery seed, tobacco leaf. Palate confirming nose with juicy acidity, fine tannins, iron, and tapenade. Just a bit of a mess.

Declining, but still pretty tasty. Ripe dark plums on the nose, which still domate; but at age 13 are backed up by aromas of old wood, old books and cedar. A little bit of dried herbs - probably used to smell more like garrigue but at this age, it smells like dried spices in somebody's kitchen cabinet. There's ripe raspberries too if you dig. Intensity of aromas is medium. Flavors are pretty fruity as well, and a lot less tertiary …

Deep red. Tight nose, smoke, raspberry, red cherry and cassis. Nice balanced flavours. Dry tannic finish. Should improve.

Rubis intense au pourtour orange brulé. Le vin nous livre des flaveurs d'épices douces, de fruits noirs mûries à point et de réglisse. Bien sec, la bouche s'illustre par un fruité réglissé, des tanins assouplis, une bonne profondeur, la pureté du fruit et une note mentholé en finale. De longueur moyenne.

At August restaurant in Zurich. By the glass with a roasted chicken. Classic Cotes du Rhone nose, spices and herbs, cedar, black fruits. Palate is dusted blueberry, spices and herbs. Great QPR on this wine. Ready now

Very solid Cote de Rhone at an excellent price point, $18. Works with food. Has all the usual ingredients that make up a high quality Rhone wine. Fresh nose with bold fruit. Even blend that has integrated well. One cannot really go wrong with this Chateau and this wine.

Drank over 2 days. Tight on day one. Kept to itself. day 2 was fun. Rich berry fruit on the front with earth, chocolate and a nice fleck of graphite leading to a long finish. Pleasing wine.

Nice QPR, but not as stellar and earlier vintages. Good, basic CdR.

What a great wine for such a nice price. Grenache and syrah are in nice balance. I can't say I clearly detect the other 4 grapes in this wine, but the overall integration makes this an extremely flavorful wine. Normally, I don't think Rhone blends go with Thai spices, but this seems to work.

All-around good wine. Great mouth-feel, great fruit, good structure, good acid. Plays well with food.

Dark red. Fragrant of berries and flowers. Husky, strongly flavoured, attractive and will improve with age. This is well priced.

PnP. 55/15/15/10/5 Grenache/Cinsault/Syrah/Carignane/Mouvedre from Lirac. Color: Black with plum edges. Nose of violets, earth and pepper. Palate: grapey and saline with concentrated flavors of ripe and tart berries -- cherry, strawberry and blueberry -- plus bittersweet chocolate in the medium+ finish.

This was big with violets and liquor on the nose to start. Then, it seemed like it carried some stewed fruit and prunes on the nose. Anyway, I'm not sure this is holding up...

Tailspin nose of seeds and spice. Luxurious and elegant nose. Inviting. Bark and wood in the back, yet silky over the tongue. Suggestions of blueberry and layers of bright fruits. An inviting sipper. You feel as if you'll want to drink it forever. Although, some stronger tannins present themselves after a couple of hours, and a warmer conditioning. A great bargain wine.

2010 vintage

A very uplifting nose; hints of cedar, blackberry and grass. Very wide. On the palate, a very smooth blend of well-balanced blueberry, coal, Spring leaf and a plank of wood. A dark wine that is silky on the ride down the throat. You can drink it all night. No great discoveries or evolutions. Simply: damn tasty wine that has its flavors working well together in harmony.

Very disappointed with this wine over the last few vintages. Used to be a multiple-purchase QPR staple. Wary, I only bought one this time figuring they would outperform given a great vintage for the region. This is awkward, disjointed, with porty, cough syrup type overtones and an unpleasant, lingering alcohol finish.

Tight, dry and tannic out of the bottle, but opened up w 45 mins of air. A respectable wine, soft fruits, modest funk, and still slightly chalky even with air. Not sure I find it enjoyable/interesting enough to drink the entire bottle without either friends or food, but at $11 a bargain I'd happily repurchase and share.

Deep red color with a nose of raspberries and earth. Mild mid palate fruit and strong acidity make this a great food wine. Some prominent tannins suggest this will be better in a year or two.

A little rugged is pretty good description, but this is a very nice wine for a casual BBQ. Good fruit and the classic Rhone mid finish. Quite happy.

Bouquet with red fruits, minerals and just a touch of herbs and spices. On the palate sweet red fruits, ok acidity and length. A clean, but not so interesting wine. Ready now and the next few years.

Quite uninteresting with dull fruit and low acidity. Did not improve over 2 hours and I do not see this improving with cellaring. My remaining two bottles will most likely end up being served in the food and not with it.

The Baron need a little more time to come together. The tannins are a little rugged but the nose is pure CdR. Slightly high in acidity this wine does well with some decanting and a hearty meal.

One of my favorite Cotes du Rhone, and this vintage is a standout. Easily worth the up charge from Montfaucon's regular CdR. Glycerin smoothness from the Grenache is balanced by tannins and body from the Syrah and other grapes. Tannins are still a bit rough right now. Fine with food, but a touch rustic when drinking pre-dinner. I think this will be at its best in a couple years, but I could see going through several bottles before then.
