Domaine de la Terre Rouge Syrah Monarch Mine Vineyard

Lost a lot on day 2.

Upon pop and pour I didn’t enjoy this but I knew it would come around—hopefully. I left it open for a few hours and came back to it and had a glass. It was a thin woodsy. Still not so good. Next morning another splash, not doing it for me. On night 2 I pour another glass—it has arrived. Dark minerals, slightly taut, not rich or dense but has gained some weight. Chewy, chalky and a bit taut. Mineral laden circumferenced by black fruit.

This was great. Deep and dark blue fruits. Exotic perfumed nose, rich and luscious. Day 2 showed wet stones. This can go several more years but I’d say to drink it now.

Always did like the Monarch Mine vineyard for this Syrah. Very decent effort, quite enjoyable, and well made.

Deep opaque dark red cherry in color. Powerful nose - blackberries, blueberries, olives, olive brine, gunpowder/smoke, Christmas baking spices, and a bit of a granite and mushrooms lurking in the background. Heavy bodied, but still thinner than I expected. High acidity. Tart blackberries, blueberries, plums, and cranberries start off the palate. Very chewy tannins. Long fruity, smoky, and scotch like finish fading to a lasting dusty stone and charcoal taste.

Blackberries, raspberries, and oak on the nose. Oak dominates on the palate. Acidic, and the mouthfeel is a little thin.
