Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Sarmassa

Complex, deep, elegant, layered, full Barolo. Drink now or hold, there’s still power in this. A gem.

2 hour decant. Nose shows dried black cherry and raspberry tea. Palate deliver a wide swath of dry red fruit that envelops the rogue, adding sour cherry, leather and dried thyme. Acidity drives the finish of river stones, plush smooth tannins, and muted but tart red fruit.

This is a solid Barolo. Gave it 3 hours of air in the decanter before drinking, and it still probably could have used more. It had a beautiful floral, pebble, red fruit nose that seemed restrained and wanting to come alive more. The tannins were still alive and well as expected, and the palate was light, tart cherry, and delicate, with a good tertiary backbone. First encounter with this wine, wasn’t sure what to expect given the previous CT reviews. I found this to be soft on the palate with tart red fruit flavors.

Tasting @Marchesi di Barolo no 3: Single vineyard Barolo aged partly on French barriques, lovely fresh and complex bouquet. Earthy soil, leather, nice elegant amount of tannins. Good stuff!

Clear light red. Nice bright nose of red fruit, tar and earth. Delicious textured earthy cherry and tar flavours and a long dry tannic finish. A minute later It's still there. Best Marchesi wine I've had.
