The Under the Gun Grenache is earthy with tobacco and crushed rock. Like it.

Medium bodied. Fruit forward dominated by blackberry jam and followed with forest floor. A bit sweeter the syrah def more approachable.

Quick notes.. PnP. Punchy wine with a strong balsa wood nose, powerful red berry palate with a peppery but slightly bitter extracted backbone, and an oaky finale. Not bad, but nothing noteworthy. cblinstrub's suggestion that this is a late-night pour when everyone's had too much to drink is a good one.

Pours even magenta. Bit of sulfur that blew off immediately in the glass. Powdery cherry hard candy, rose, lavender, blackberry pie, clove, and a touch of gravelly minerality on the nose. Palate carries over, with a bracing acidity, and drinkable freshness. Tannins are very light and smooth, there's no heat here, this hides the 15.7% alcohol well. Great now, probably one to drink within the next five years or so.

Not cool aid, but the fruit bomb is pretty close. High alcohol, very muddled fruit, some coffee, not much secondary characteristics. No acid balance. Good for saving a bottle when friends are over, and you've had too much to drink.

No formal notes. Lots of delicious, nearly syrupy red fruit. Very smooth and not hot despite the high alcohol content. Medium-plus body with nearly non-existent tannins. Not a stunner for me, but good enough. Not bad at the $29 USD I paid via Last Bottle, but any more than that would be poor value.

This is a Whopper of a wine. Loads of blackberry, tobacco and hints of blood. This is not for the faint hearted.

Day One: Rhubarb, sour cherry, dark berries, cinnamon, spice, smooth tannins and some oak that blows off pretty quickly. The dark fruits dominated after first opening, and by the end of the first glass had softened noticeably. Second Day: Everything had integrated nicely and the grenache was fuller bodied with soft fruit and spice notes. Very nice! I will wait another year on the 2nd bottle.

Ripe cherry, blackberry, rhubarb, camphor, cinnamon, menthol, cedar, soft velvety tannins, nice balance with some heat at the end. Great value at the 30 dollar price tag, wish I had bought more. This was a PnP and drank well out of the gate.

Like the wine very much, but the bottle shape not! Second day was even better.

Heavy, dark black fruit. Not too tannic but dense and bold somehow. Ready to drink after PNP this is a real enjoyable and fun wine. The unique bottle adds to the character of this heavy hitter.

Some will look at this rating and think I'm delirious OR that I've only had experience drinking grocery store wine, while dealing with a head cold....well, there's a style for everyone and Manfred Krankl, Dave Phinney, and Curt Schalchlin have made a boatload of $ in this hedonistic, who-cares-about-ABV%, ripeness bordering on sluttiness style. I like it for what it is and can appreciate the stylistic creativity. Would I drink this daily?...No. Would I gulp it down as, say experiential …

A little barn yard on the nose. Dark fruit all over. This wine is tight and needs more time. It’s fruit forward and growling. Taste is hardcore blackberry jam mixed with fig and tobacco. There’s a bit of bacon on the nose. Wow this really has potential.

This is still too early, i will wait 2-3 years for my next taste. Good dark fruits, heavier than most grenache.

Heavy duty. Big, jubilant fruit that mellows out a bit with time. Paired great with BBQ, especially the ribs. Reminds me a bit of the St. Cosme Gigondas but less complex.
