Delicious! Great acidity, still young. At an in between phase. Superb now though. Another decade, at least.

Delicious, but a little fatter and extracted than I expected. Still varietally correct with waxy green bean mash, and a bomb of a Gruner, this is just not as refined as it could be. Flavor vs style? This is on the flavor side. Hmmm.... Dammit, I want both! :)

Wow, this is shining. Impeccable purity, depth, balance and style, I thought this might be fading, but no. Obviously the last few years were a dumb phase, this is still barely adolescent, and has two decades, easily. Brilliant Gruner, with lots of time and upside.

Very vibrant and fresh, notes of green fruit, yet also mineral. This is good juice.

From memory: This was served at a dinner gathering we hosted, while I was cooking, so I wasn't as focused. Less profound than the previous bottle, and more forward, but still excellent. Added another 6 bottles, so we'll see where this goes and whether my first assessment was overly enthusiastic.....

Wow. I mean really wow. This is the best young Gruner I've ever had, and I've had quite a few. The classic waxy green bean note is especially forefront, especially at first. I'll be very curious as to how this ages as it's brillant now, fading a bit in the glass, and Gruner can go a LONG time. Hmmm. Where will this go? Wish I had more than just one more bottle to find out. I'll try to hold out …

initially lychee and nice but forward acidity. after 3 hours, the nose evolved to cotton candy. fascinating wine. would drink again.

Rose City Jeeb (Cafe Castagna - Portland, OR) : Another great showing. As is the case with many Austrian Gruner's this requires some air to open up and takes on beautiful aromas of white pepper, peach and pear. The palate is broad shouldered, no doubt, but has really nice acidity which frames the fruit.

Intense! Herbs and citrus nose, grapefruit and spice on the palate, then Boom! Like licking a chalkboard with the slate minerality on the finish. Not as oily in the mouth as the last time I had this - seems to have gotten more silky. Shows some alcohol as it warms up, so I recommend keeping a chill on it after decanting.

Still one of the best Gruner's I've had. The density of the fruits, minerals and spice are perfectly balanced with the underlying mineral and acid notes. As with the other 2007 Forstreiter Tabors, this was beautifully complex, rich and layered. Superb.

Sushi & White Wines (SoNo East) : Another amazing showing. Deep nose of herbs, pepper, melon and florals. The palate was incredibly silky but had a scary density to it. The flavors were deep and dense, but they seemed relatively airy - an amazing combination for me. Just packed with peach and nectarine flavors and also a briny, spicy element that is exotic and wonderful. One of the best Austrian wines out there.

Tuesday night sushi and whites (Tooch's, chicago IL) : nose: very aromatic and open nose of pears, minerals tones, snow peas, white pepper tones and bits of white fruits. Really good depth with a real nice herbal base on the nose. taste: medium/full bodied with a real fat and great feel. Medium acidity with real good completeness and tones of of white pepper, minerals, pears, oils, and some bits of herbs. overall: This is a great gruner. Wonderful depth with …

Friday Night at Ian's (Ian's House) : Another great bottle! Nose had dense white florals, sizzling pepper and layers of apples, pears and peaches. Great length, and certainly deserves a long decant.

Gruner Veltliner and Riesling at Mandu (Mandu - Washington, DC) : the nose is so oily! gops of oil, spicy herbs, lemon oil, melons with spice. gorgeous thickness on the palate, matched with spiced lemons, almond paste and white pepper. gorgeous wine. really mindboggling in its depth and complexity.

Gruner's and Riesling.; 4/3/2011-4/4/2011 (Mandu Washington Dc) : Nose of lemon peel, white grapefruit, sea shell, with some greeness. Palate of lemon, with creme, little green, white pepper and a little bit of heat. Finish was average in length, bigger than the first wine. 87-88

Riesling & Gruner Dinner (Mandu - Washington, DC) : Not as exciting as my first bottle. I opened this about 90 minutes prior to service, and I should have given it about 3-4 hours instead. The nose was a bit hot to me at first, with tidal pool tones, flint, dill, white melon, petrichor, and oil. The palate was dense but lithe - showcasing lanolin, lemon oil, oyster shells, and white flowers. Much like the nose, I got a bit …

Dazzling nose of peppered melons and citrus, with a powerful mineral undercurrent. After being opened for an hour or so, a beautiful floral component built up...reminded me of walking through the flower department at a hardware store - lilacs, roses, acacia, daisies, and lillies. The palate didn't disappoint either - pure lemon and lime zest, flint, sea salt, with subtle melon and and white peaches. Great minerality, great depth, with searing acid on the finish. Closing in on a "wow" …

Freedom Pies (Convivio) : This has shed a lot of the stoniness and roughness that used to be front-and-center here, and now it's instead characterized by a tightly coiled juiciness with the minerality surfacing only on the back, which is laced with something almost menacing that sets this apart from all the other whites today.

Pie Franco (Convivio, NYC) : Wild, wild aromatics, just an amazing perfume of pepper, all sorts of spices and floral notes over bright fruit, and such intensity and precision in the mouth that it's hard to do justice with words. I'll just go with 'wow'.

By far the most impressive Tabor since I've been buying them back to the 2004 vintage, the acidity here just sizzles and the flavor is so focused it's like getting an electric shock. With every sip the impact is just as piercing and then unwinds to dredge the palate with rough, craggy stone.
