Dry, rich and complex, this had flavours of breadcrumbs smothered with butter. There were layers and dimension, vibrancy and profundity. A multi-dimensional Champagne with a super-lingering finish. CHP 94 pts

2012 vintage

This enters a bit sharp and then very rich and bready. Then bitter. A bit of red apple. Creamy on the palate. Tight. Chalky and tart on finish. I didn't get to go back to this but I could see it improving w air. Nose - 4.5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 14.5+/20.

Vintage Champagne from my favourite Grand Marque Domaine, served PnP from Magnum. Immediately slightly rich and generous, still keeping the signature Roederer tightness and acidity, brioche, citrus. After drinking some other wines, the dosage seemed a little unintegrated, but there was so much heft to this that it didn't matter much. While it was drinking great now, I reckon it could've easily developed further over the next 10 years. Lovely wine!

Drinking very nicely at the moment. Quite broad and toasty but still with good cut. Prefer this to the 2013 at the moment.

Lunch at Cornus : Mid straw. Completely flat in the glasses. Nicely rich nose. Fine but present mousse, but it’s a bit dull, muted and flat. Not sure if it’s the glasses or the bottle, but ultimately a bit meh beyond the richness and mid-development of the nose. ***

Bordeaux 2000 - 25 years on : From MAG. Beautiful and expressive nose with warm croissant, butter, citrus and white flowers. A real charmer, yet serious. 94-95.

Nice. A step up from "just champagne" and the NV Roederer "Collection" champagne. A good balance of fruit (some combination of apple, pear and lemon) and pastry. Good structure, fine bubbles. Pleasant, easy to drink, not terribly complex.

Solid, needs a bit of air to come into focus. After a half hour (starting with second glass) showed citrus, minerals, slight caramel oak, persistent finish, fine mousse. A lovely vintage Roederer.

2008 vintage

Liht gold color. Drank a couple glass with our Paris Dining Club Verte dinner. This was very easy drinking, suave and elegant to be precise. Toast and brioche, pear, bready, spices with a fine mousse, a tiche of dulce de leche flan and fine chalk minerality. Long and lingering, this is very pretty already in it's youth.

Excellent wine. The feeling that it is solid, very tasty, very drinkable (almost "beerly quaffable") but not 95-pointishly complex. So a solid good champagne, excellent value for money. very nice. And I say: drink up! In my honest opinion it does not need more cellaring. But that's just me.

Grädde, nybakat bröd, hasselnötter, citrus, ananas. Väldigt hög syra som typiskt för årgången. Behöver ligga länge och kommer bli fantastisk om 10 år.

Fine nose of brioche, quite yeast driven. Youthful and still quite linear, very fine, light mousse which faded quite quickly, good acidity and a hint of nut on the finish showing the first signs of development. Sophisticated, lots of Chardonnay fruit showing.

It is never easy to be the midnight champagne for New Year’s Eve. It did fine, but no lasting impression. Not necessarily something to blame the wine!

Crisp, savoury and initially dry, this had notes of breadcrumbs, yeast and ripe bananas. Rich and buttery, this was charming and complex, transforming in the glass with each successive sip. Showing no signs of ageing whatsoever, this was an impeccable glass of fizz. CHP 94 pts

Private dinner with friends at Mooloolaba. This wine opened very nicely with a nose of white peach, pale cherries, lemon and brioche. There is a lovely balance and purity on the palate which carries through with plenty of matiere and minerality. While it lacks the drive and distinction of the 12 Cristal the house style is evident in the purity and softness of the impact of the wine. Delicious.

Three years since my first one and my impressions are very much the same, i.e. it still isn't fully ready. There is certainly a little more happening in terms of quantity of descriptors for fhe palate, but those seem like mere suggestions of what full maturity will bring into the picture.

Ribwich Lunch (Hawksmoor Air Street) : Pale yellow colour. On pouring - just the slightest butyric hint on the nose. The palate is just at the point of ripeness - a ripe Granny Smith character, someone said apple peel and I agreed. With time, air and a bit of heat because even better, even more rounded. Great stuff.

Full and deep flavour, very nice. Finish quite soft so suspect not for the long haul.

Waterish pale yellow color. Very weak scent of bread. Taste of waterish yellow fruit, Green and yellow apples, little pear, flintstone, very light mineral and yest. Also lemon, Not so good complexity. Has a core of flavour that is unripe and raw. For being Louis Roederer im not fully satisfied. Points: 85 (86)

1995 vintage

Fat rich fruit and a bit of grip, but somehow the two don't come together. It's nice enough, but nowhere near as good as I was hoping for.

2008 vintage

Fully mature with a flavour of sour green plums sweetened with a drizzle of honey and caramel and seasoned with vanilla. It still has a lively acidity but this is softened by a rich coating of butter. Very complex, it simply opens up, yielding more with every mouthful, to the extent I was tasting a coating of dark chocolate on a lengthy satisfying finish. Very fine indeed and in much better condition than I had anticipated. CHP 94 pts

Drinking nicely. Slightly sweeter than I would like which I found overpowered the more savoury brioche and mineral notes. Overall it just didn’t quite seem in balance to me. Maybe down to personal preference however, if you like your champagne on the sweeter side I expect you’d love this. Tasted double blind. While not yet fully ready, this is already drinking on a 93pts level with upside for more. The complexity is already quite stunning and with more age, the structure should match it. TN: Brioche, dark berries, some faint citrus and minerality on the medium+ expressive bouquet. Lovely and mellow wine that has a bit of sparkle to excite the crowd. Very lively nose full of perfume laced with citrus and pear notes, brioche and a touch of earthiness. Elegant and sublime body that has lovely acidity, tension and a mineral finish. Drink now to 5+ years.

Fortnum & Mason version in magnum. Rich, bready, golden syrup. Bit too much dosage and a bit heavy?

Clear light yellow, nice medium mousse. Intense autolysis nose, hints of spice and red apple, more driven by dead yeast than fruit. Delicious slightly creamy, apple, pear and pastry flavours and a long dry finish. A wine of depth.

Seriously pleasant wine. If you bought it for circa £45 you have a serious bargain in my view. Definitely good for 3+ years of prime depending on how you like your Champagne

2008 vintage

Better than at release with some maturity now showing. Still quite a lot of autolytic/yeast notes in the nose, alongside ripe apples, a hint of peach and fresh butter. On the palate more rounded with medium amount of fine mousse and medium acids, yellow fruit (apples, clemetine, peach, plum) and slightly smoky minerals. Well balanced, fairly elegant, if perhaps a bit sweet at times. Nice wine, deliver well but does not overachive.

Roederer is consistently on top in an elegant Champagne style, and the vintage in a top notch year is no exception. The color has gained some age and appears light golden. The bubbles are fine, as always, and very persistent in the glass. An understated but wonderful drink. Quite still youthful, it is more of a Noir than a Blanc or a champagne! Earthy, powerful, austere, plenty of fruit with a hint of toast and fresh, it ticks all the boxes. It is very much a thinking person's champagne so I would suggest having it with food rather than an aperitif drink. Had it with a Salad Nicoise and it was a great match. Drink now to 2028+
