Georges Vigouroux Malbec Cahors Gouleyant

The Gouleyant of Georges Vigouroux is mostly produced from the Malbec grapes that grow on the hills of Cahors. This is a rich red wine with subtle aromas, complex flavors of ripe berries (raspberries and blackcurrant) blended together with tannins. Beautiful body, fleshy and well balanced. This wine will pair best with the regional dishes of Southwestern France such as duck, goose, lamb and local cheeses.

Nice barnyard action on the nose, but not much else after that to excite me.

Serious Barnyard funk going on.. This one tasted a bit thin and I got the chalky dry thing going on as well. Pretty nice however.

Inky purple. Big tasty blue fruit upfront then......nothing. Very little mid palate and no real finish. A little chalky, dry, tannins at the end. Not bad for 10 bucks though.

Yep, that's Cahors. Actually, it's a pretty decent wine, fruity but also properly and pleasantly austere and tannic. Made for the table, and it's hard to fault it for that.

Dark purple color, on the nose muted black and red fruit, plums and spice, a touch of the sweet vanilla, yet in old world fashion, all the flavors seem a bit more integrated so that the individual elements (oak, individual fruits) do not stand out on their own. Will go great with steak, especially a nicely grilled, charred steak as the acidity will cut through the fat of the steak and the charred edges will pair nicely with the sweet …

I think I like this better than previous vintages - a little pepper, a bit of garrigue. Decent French country wine.
