30 and 50 year old red Tawny's : A wild and huge wine that is packed with dark fruit flavors and a high acidity. Clear notes of cognac oxidation and dried fruits. It perhaps lacks a bit of depth and length but it does have a nice intensity. 96-97p

Now that has a lovely, powerful and bold nose. And rich on the palate. Really darn darn good. Wow. Smashingly good.

Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark, London) : Plummy, porty, black fruit, slight herbaceous notes which are more prominent on the palate, slight residual sugar. Hmm.

Bought by the glass off of a restaurant wine list to accompany savory herb-roasted marrow bones as dessert. Nose of cherries, raisins and pistachios. Color was dark purple in bowl and lightening to a pinkish garnet on the rim, with a small clear halo. In the mouth: deep stewed and sweetened plums and cherry cough drops with the alcohol noticeable but pleasantly so. This was a simple port consistent with its inexpensive offering on the list. No one would confuse …

Very consistent with our prior bottle two years ago. Amber color, nutty flavor with some butterscotch. Well liked by all.

Medium expressive nose, a bit hot. Notes of roasted nuts, burnt wood, dark & white chocolate. Full-bodied with a creamy texture, bitterness on the aftertaste with slightly burning alcohol.

Excellent tawny. Amber color, nutty flavor. One of the better tawnys we’ve had.

WS Grand Tour 2018, New York. Oh! What a let-down after the Kopke Colheita 1981! Broad and flat, just not enough acid and concentration. Rather thin, with some heat from the alcohol. Not a fan. (NR)

Clear light red. Very sherry like nose, salt air, dried apricots and caramel. Dried fig and dried apricot flavours with some very soft caramel flavours. The finish is long and unctuous.

I had a bottle of this one last Christmas and was blown away, bought another one then and opened it now but this one, although excellent was far from the brilliance of the last years experience, every thing was just a small step below the precision of last years bottle, still liked it though.

This has always been my favorite tawny port. It reminds me of fruitcake with the pronounced baking spices, the candied fruits, and the nutty oxidation. The fruit is very vibrant, even ruby-ish, but the aromas are mature and complex. I don't think any other tawny port achieves that combo so well.

On the nose is similar to the 20y Ramos Pinto but in the mouth the depth and clarity is a level above. Caramel, dried fruits, spices mixed with orange, orange peels and loaded with elegant intensity. Very focused and precised - outstanding. It lasted only 3 days, as usually by this time of year I would enjoy a bottle of port for 7 to 10 days ;)

I think this is my favorite tawny port of all. It offers a unique combination of exuberant fruit and strong rancio and baking spices. The raisiny finish doesn't quit. It's not the most elegant tawny (that award might go to Graham 30 or 40), but I'd say it's the most flavorful.

Wine & Spirits Top 100 Tasting (City Walk @ Metreon, San Francisco, CA) : Caramel, butterscotch; palate has some sweetness, high alcohol, nice fruit; medium finish. Very nice but simple for a 30 year. 91

pale ruby color, caramel, spices, clove, perfectly balanced, soft and silky aftertaste Tasted alongside 2014 20 YR Quinta do Bom Retiro Tawny. Feel much softer with more elegance. Score: 92+

Great tawny port. I love the spread of the dried fruit (not just dark raisin) and the maturity of the aromas. I think this is my favorite tawny port of all.

Very good. Notes of grand marnier, walnuts, dried fruit, caramel, cookie dough, and cigar box. Great complexity here. Smells older than all tawnies I've tried, including 40yos, but still vibrant and fruity. This is really a beauty. It will appeal to fans of both younger, ruby-ish tawnies and older tawnies with more rancio.

A private lunch (Restaurant Northcote Manor *, Langho, Blackburn, UK) : Elegant, refined, silky and long, floral, subtle and deep, tangy acidity is perfectly integrated, Bual-like, apricot, nuts, orange, hint of salted caramel, spices, smoke.

Nice color, very clean and simple, good alcohol used, seems a bit dryer than i would desire. Decent but not exciting and >$25 it is pricy.

A private dinner (at home) : Bottled 2013. Very evolved, almost Madeira-like style; with its tangy acidity, woodsy bitters and peachy fruit I might easily have mistaken this for a Bual Madeira; topnotes of vanilla and spice, intense and uncompromising, excellent intensity and length. A very impressive powerhouse of a wine but not subtle or charming. An acquired taste.

Bourbon brown in color. Nose o candied walnuts, creme brûlée and orange creamsicle. Full bodied and mouth coating but complete and round. Campfire roasted marshmallow, the top of the creme brûlée and dried apricots come first. This is followed by praline pecans, dried sage and orange pith. Pleasent acidity and sweetness balance the alcohol. The finish goes on and on. And on. Excellent wine. The only drawback is I didn't buy more. Enjoy!

Caramel and dark creme brule from the oak. Hint of sweet molasses, nuts and orange fruit on palate. High alcohol evident in nasal response. Very smooth on palate with linear mouthfeel and long finish. Surprising hints of older blended Scotch. To be savoured.

Deeper fuller nose. Round, fat, mature dried mangoes and apricots, flavourful and long mouth watering finish.
