Asahi Shuzo, Kubota Manju Junamai Daiginjo Sake

Always liked Sake although rarely drink it. Picked this up in April in a duty free at Tokyo-Haneda airport returning from a small ship cruise round Japan. Drank both chilled and warm over 3 days (not with food). Core of jasmine rice with crisp conference pear nuances suffused with nutty (esp hazlenut) extracts. Very precise, clean. Off-dry. A quite fragrant sake with good palate presence and quite creamy finish. Ripe fruits, pear feel and also something difficult to place like fragrant almond/nutty edge. Very enjoyable and food friendly. Good value for money too. Tech Specs: Alc - 15% SMV - +2 Rice - Yamada Nishiki

By the glass as part of the same pairing at RuyGin, Tokyo Quite a lot firmer and stronger than we would have expected for a Junmai Daiginjo to the point that we thought it was a non Junmai. Still very elegant and smooth on the palate but with a firm presence. Definitely we thought this was a lot more than 15% alc.
